I’ve been running with 5 wheels and tires for the past 14 years on my 2009 dodge ram. I rotate all 5 through as I have a matching spare wheel and tire.

does the maverick fit a full size matching spare and tire? Or will it be a donut only?

Thanks

Not quite a donut but not true full sized either. I loved finding that out for my AWD

Yea, you get a full size rim mounted with an undersized cheap tire. furthermore, Ford service refuses to rotate five tires. ... and the Ford TPSI will not work with five tires.

I replaced the cheap passenger tires a week after taking delivery of my new Maverick. Traded them for five Wildpeak truck tires (same size as stock). I rotate all five every 5,000 miles (I've got 19,000 miles on them now).

Every couple hundred miles a warning comes on the dash advising me that there is a problem with the TPS, because one of my tires with a TPS sensor is on the spare rack.

Is there anyway to disable the TPS ?

Hm that is weird. I normally go to discount to rotate my tires since they do it fo free when you buy the tires there, and they will do a 5 tire rotation. That TPS sensor issue would be very annoying though.

Put a tps on tire #5. Oops noticed that won't work
Edit to add! When learning the tire locations take the spare ten feet away from others (may or may not need tpms on fifth tire) learn four on ground, then when spare to be is brought back to truck your truck should think it's tpms is just some stranger parked nearby?

Check to see if tps is being used to count revolutions and comparing results as input for aid in stability control with individual wheel braking?

I might do the same as you once I get my Maverick in - did you use the original spare tire rim for your fifth wheel and it fits fine while stowed underneath the vehicle?

I will, as I have always done, bought a set of wheels with snow tires mounted and switched back and forth with the OEM tires/wheels. Then I keep one winter/summer tire in the bed to use as a spare. screw the donut. Ohhh my gawd, how many brand-new donut tires and wheels must there be in scrapyards? I know those of you in the south drive on tires until you can see the air inside those tires, but we need tread up here in the north.

People don't lose IQ points when they cross state or regional lines - even when they head south... I'm sure there are a few "people in the south" who drive on bald tires. I'm equally sure there are probably the same percentage of people in the north, east, and west who do the same. It's got NOTHING to do with where they live, and everything to do with HOW they live...

So can we please stop with the pejorative generalizations?

PS - Ever driven in a thunderstorm dumping 4 inches of rain in an hour? Trust me - you need tread on your tires in that situation as much as you need the right kind of tread in winter.

Ok looked online. It appears that purchase of activation tool so you do not have to let air out of tire during location learn would be worth it. Since tool has to be inches from valve stem to activate the sensor and sensors need to be activated in order LF,RF,RR,LR this should work for you. Note that sensors are active for 30 minutes after wheel is rotated so during position learning the spare IF ACTIVE must be at least three feet from the tire being learned or it could be one learned. Some fords have the fifth full sized spare programed and shows on dash. Not sure now but I believe I saw the Bronco on that list. The activation tool was about $25-$30, I think. Note the tpms turning off at 30 minutes is battery saving feature. The battery is supposed to be good for about 150k miles and not ten years unless you drive 15k miles per year?

After thought. Maybe the notice on spare could be triggered by out of range pressure but I doubt it.

“Activation tool?” Would love a link.

Just commenting that this is one of the most annoying features of new cars — the “doughnut” spare and fussy TPS and AWD systems.

Now I’m sure tires and safety and mileage are all better with today’s cars and tires …

But I miss the good old days when you could do the five-wheel rotation with a full size spare. You always knew you had a good spare to go to if you had a flat.

When we first ordered our XLT back in 2022, we ordered the “full-size spare,” but then dropped it from the order when it became a constraint.

Never got the 2022 truck anyway, but when we reordered for 2023, we didn’t bother ordering the “full-size spare,” because by then we had learned it really wasn’t a full-size spare anyway.

Anyway, just sayin’ ….

Some manufacturers have already solved this issue. They don't include a spare tire at all. Just an inflation kit. It also saved them space, weight, and BOM cost. Win win all around!

Yep … Unless you suffer a blowout or puncture that roadside repair won’t fix. No win then, except for the tow company.

Having trouble verifying the tool has both 315mh and 433mh capability. I believe the oem has both. The valve stem sensors could be either frequency but both are PAL type.
Do not know when they will be coming out but the new tpms will have bi directional communication and will be glued to inside of tire so can gather more data, tread remaining, load weight on tire, will be real great for calculating remaining distance can travel on cars drive battery soc. Wow tire age/condition could put "go buy a tire now" on screen and put car in limp mode!
Etc...
