I see many people on here refer to the Fuelly app as a good means of tracking real MPG. I’m new to Fuelly and have a couple of questions if you’re interested in answering:

1) is it worth paying for the “premium” version?
2) do you trust it’s security enough to store your VIN and insurance info on it?
3) why this app vs tracking in your own spreadsheet?

I've used a spreadsheet for each my cars over the last 20yrs, I did the same for my last EV and current Maverick. Seems easier than yet another app...

Fuelly.... I've been using it for a while now and I feel like the app has gone downhill badly in the last couple years. Last time I used it, it was very glitchy and lost a couple entries. I've been looking around for an alternative but none of them seem much better.

1) I use google rewards so I would probably buy premium if I liked the direction the app has gone. Free play store credit for answering some survey questions, a little intrusive but you can literally just say "I don't remember" to every question.
2) No. I keep my insurance card in the vehicle and a copy at home, it does not need to be online, nor does my VIN.
3) I generally prefer app based tracking because I can update it anywhere rather than having to wait till I'm home then sit down at the computer and enter it on a spreadsheet. Very handy on road trips.

There is a premium version? Why do you need to upload any of that info?

I've been using it for years with none of that.

I write everything down at the pump and transfer it over at home. It's not that serious to me that I need to track this stuff religiously. Even if I take a trip I can look at the dash and know what it translates to real world after so many months of driving. Hell, after the first couple manual calculations you should know without the need for the app at all. All it is for me is something to check my work and simplify. Don't overthink it.

This is one of those K.I.S.S applications, and keeping it simple, stupid; is the best way I can describe it. No need for any of that junk. Use the basic features and call it good.

No to premium, no need to store vin or ins. Been using it for years, super easy just takes a minute after fill to put in values.

Im adding another no to premium. I have used it for the last 5years or so since before the subscription part was added and have no idea what premium would even get me over the basic tracking I use it for. No vin or insurance info is needed to use it. You can manually select all vehicle options and you don’t even need an account to use it as that is also optional. It will every once in a while ask of you want to switch to premium but there is an easy no option to that listed.

thanks for posting Hybrid mileage. I have tracked my 22 AWD Ecoboost for 3000 miles and have an average of 27mpg. 60% highway 40% city. I am surprised that it is that close to your hybrid with your mostly city driving which should give a higher average if I understand the hybrid correctly.

My Fuelly logs include about 3k miles pulling a 6x10 enclosed trailer (25mpg) and a few thousand pulling a 5x8 trailer so it’s a bit skewed lower.
