Newbie here...As I read the 2023 manual for my 2.0 Ecoboost Maverick. I got a little confused with the fuel type statement because the manual said operates on an 87 octane type. Then said recommended top-tier type but mentioned that 91 or above is the best optimized one. While Google searches said must be 95 octane type. Can anyone clarify that part?

Standard driving no towing 87 should be all you need, towing or spirited driving 91 or higher. Tier 1 brands in All cases. Personally I use 93 all the time. Just my opinion

This.
If you are a typical driver 87 is fine. If you tow or haul a lot 91 or higher.

If you care enough to pay attention there is a slight advantage to 91 in the eco post. 1 or 2 mpg if you drive conservatively or a performance bump if you are aggressive.

Neither is worth the extra cost of the higher octane. But if you have the money and are ok with the cost the bump in performance is noticeable. Especially from a stop and in sport mode. Not earth shattering, but noticeable if that is your thing.

Also be aware that it might take a few tanks of higher octane to get the full effect. They anti-knock sensors are slow to adjust with higher octane. Going from 91 to 87 only takes about 10 miles. So it is not worth switching back and forth. You will get nothing from the higher octane besides wasted money. Stick with one or another.

I don't see much difference in performance between 87 and 91/92. My question is whether its worth the extra $ for the higher octane because its ethanol free vs 87 octane in the long run???

Ethanol free and octane levels are two separate issues. You can , for example, get 91 octane with or without ethanol.

I have been using 87 octane only for almost 9 months and 5k miles. Haven’t done any towing yet but no issues and getting 28.5 mpg overall.
