Front Mud flap modification

I'm contemplating cutting the front mud flap as I'm concerned it is so low that it will get damaged on even a moderately rough road.
Has anyone done this?
I think totally removing it would reduce supporting the front skirt too much.
Excuse me for calling these parts what I want to, I need to get one of those factory service manuals to call them the right thing.


Here's a photo of what thinking, thoughts?

It's not a mud flap. It's there to improve aerodynamic drag. If you trim or remove them, the only downside is you might see a slight reduction in high-speed fuel economy.

I've been off-road several times with them in place. I can tell you that it takes more than a moderately rough road to make contact. Mine have made contact with rocks without any real damage other than scuffs and scrapes. They just bend and slide over the obstacle.

It does look better without them, IMO, so I won't be too sad to remove them when they eventually suffer enough damage.

My truck has been lowered and never had those be any problem, like the earlier member said they are for aerodynamics but yes some people have removed them just because of the look & other reasons. Your truck your choice

I guess I should have searched for "flap" instead of "mud flap".
Didn't try "Air Dam", maybe that would have worked.
I'll be removing mine and see how i works out.

Well I removed one and as suspected found the support for the skirt got a bit too precarious for my taste even though I put all the bolts back in after the removal.
If it bugs me I will cut them as I was thinking. That would preserve all the skirt support down there.
