I, like a dummy, say out loud and point..."look a Maverick". No one hears it but myself.

I said once to my wife " look at that "Maverick" to which she replied "OH! WOW! Thanks! I didn't see him. I bet he even plays guitar!". (60/40 chance she just didn't want me to point out every Ford Maverick that I see. She is that type. Fifty years or so ago when she found out my grandma Pavloved me by potty training with running water in lavatory, I was working on car in driveway, had grease/oil on hands. She turned water hose on and splashed water on concrete. Aaarrrggghhh!!! I found out what I had married!!!

Mine finally told me to stop telling her how many MPG's I got every time we go out. I get it, but it still shocks me to see over 50mpg's when my daily driver is a 21 5.0 F150.

No, it does not. A movie made in 1986, which has no bearing on the name of our truck - does not make more sense than what a Maverick really is.

Maverick - an unorthodox or independent-minded person , individualist, nonconformist, free spirit
Maverick from Top Gun - started as a loose cannon who marched at the beat of his own drum. After the death of Goose he learned to grow up and become one of the best aviators in the Navy.

So Maverick from Top Gun was a maverick and death of Goose made him a better person. The Goose is an easy way to pay respect to mavericks everywhere. I'm not saying it isn't a little corny but people like to feel like part of a group and doing this is their low key way of acknowledging other "mavericks."
