right. yeah, no. just because it's not technically impossible does not make it plausible.

the stock tweeters and door speakers are 4 ohms. you're welcome to dig around for incontrovertible proof, whatever point it would serve considering this thread involves installing and amp and speakers. (hint: there is none.)

Ah, so from the OP information, what is "plausible" since you are vetting that for the thread?

I took a photo of the stock XL/XLT dash tweet (8 ohm, 12.5w made in China). As I'm in a marathon videconf right now, I eventually found a thread by snowkarver where he captured the stock door speaker (4 ohm, 25w, made in Mexico).

So, we're back to why the OP has some mysterious disturbance related to his install of speakers.

Another possibly--Colinl to vet plausibility-- is a polarity flip on one of the aftermarket door speakers or tweets, which can make for odd sensations, depending on head location and content.

Hi all.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'm glad to hear the factory speakers are 4-ohm, I'd hate to have to chase that down. I've played around with the levels in the truck with AA running as well as the radio. Oddly enough, the irritation pretty much totally disappears when the mid is turned all the way down. It doesn't seem to be coming from the treble or bass, which was unexpected. However, it also seems to be worse with higher pitch content, so I'm still uncertain where to chase this down. I'm now wondering if I have a tweeter out-of-phase. Those aren't too difficult to get to, but is there a way to check this with an audio app or something? Would it also be best to replace the tweeters with an 8-ohm model?

it's likely that, a bad tweeter, or a noise - probably from a bad ground.

using fade and balance to test one speaker at a time with an inexpensive dayton calibrated mic and a tablet/smartphone-based RTA app would help find it.

Hi all. I don't have a nice mic, but I tested speakers with fade and balance with a couple of apps on the phone. None of the speakers showed a noticable spike at any frequency. They also don't seem to have polarity issues. I'm kind of perplexed. Perhaps the phone is incapable of picking up what I'm noticing? And maybe I just need to spring for a solid amp
