I would not care if they had named it ANY name. I did not buy a name; I bought a great little truck.

Just a guess on my part, but I'm thinking that Ford has a new Ranchero in a future product. Probably similar to the Australian version. Besides, the Ranchero was only a 2 door vehicle with only one row of seets seating ony 2-3 people depending which model you had.I was running around yest in my Maverick and I realized how more car like it is vs truck which made me wonder why they didn't revive the Ranchero name?

You must be old enough to remember (or maybe forget?) that the original Maverick had been around a few years before the 1973 gas crisis. It was a response to the economical import vehicles of the time, however. Both in price and operating costs, at least in theory and maybe only initially. I know when I was in High School it suddenly became difficult to justify (and keep operating) my full sized 389 Pontiac. That thing had a 26.5 gallon gas tank! I saw my fuel cost per gallon go from a low of about $.23 (during price wars) to $.40 something before I graduated in '73. I initially budgeted $3 a week for my fuel cost. And the prices really did keep going up.100% plus at least the Ranchero was a truck while the original Maverick was a poor attempt to respond to the oil embargo in the '70s
Two mavericks!!I think the name fits the truck more than it fit the car.
