My personal opinion is.
Folk's don't mind paying for a new phone. It's transferring all the data over to the new phone. The possibility of lost data or pictures.
Along with the probability of learning a new screen layout.
I love getting a new phone. I DREAD transferring everything over to the new phone.
A comfortable format has already been established for the last 5-10 years with the current phone.

Every phone sold for the last 15 years has iCloud (for apple) and Google Drive (for android) installed by default, and the phone prompts you to set it up to automatically back up everything. You have to acknowledge that you are not backing up anything to skip it. If you need more storage, upgrading to 100GB of storage cost $20 a year, and sales are very common. Setting up cloud backups is also the standard when creating new accounts, and the phone will constantly pester you to set up backups if you havent already.

IMO there is no excuse for lost data in 2026 from switching phones.

i just upgraded a few days ago it took me all of 15 minutes to transfer all my data accurately and I lost nothing easy peasy
