FIXED - Coolant leak near exhaust - Exhaust Pipe Auxillary Heater

Holy crap - I was an ASE certified mechanic 30 years ago. Owned a locksmith company the last 30 years. I can tell you this - you give me the diagnostic tools and reference materials ( not to mention the current techs have a hotline to Ford repair tech ) and I could walk into your dealership and work on a hybrid Maverick. To tell someone " uhhh we dont have a technician trained on hybrids " - They need to go ahead shut the doors and stop working on vehicles. Lame and sad.

I am a current airframe and powerplant mechnic. I've been one for for the past 40 years. If you give me the current and calibrated tools and the reference materials I can also walk into a dealership and work on a hybrid.

That isn't the point.

The dealership said that they don't have an individual trained to do the work. In their judgement, until March they don't have the ability to do the work. Essentially they have shut their doors...to hybrid vehicles.

If you don't have the confidence to successfully repair my equipment, I would rather not have you touch my equipment.

So if they dont have anyone capable of reading or using the thousands of dollars worth of diagnostic equipment, help lines, reference materials they shouldn't be working on ANY vehicles ICE or Hybrid. The process to repair isn't something it takes till March - it is the same for all vehicles - follow the flow chart of symptoms, inspect, repair or replace, fixed. Pay someone to work for you enough that is more than a parts changer - problem solved. That's my point.

Saw on tv where a couple with 2 kids would have to earn 80k before taxes to net the same as they get under covid subsidy which has about one more year to run. That's one reason it's hard to hire help

If it is just a matter of following a flow chart, anybody could do it. You should obviously know there is more to it than that....especially on new equipment.

It sounds like you would have respected them more to have tried and failed. Costing everyone money (that can be replaced) and time (which can never be replaced).

I don't understand the need to denigrate someone that is being honest.

Whether or not anyone could walk in, grab a manual and make the repair isn't really the point here.

The fact that a dealer sold a truck they couldn't service is the problem. Selling hybrids for over a year, including other Ford models since 2005 without a tech is simply malpractice and should cost them their franchise.

Anyone that calls themselves a technician should be able to do it. Tell you what, I'll get you the factory repair troubleshooting guide and show you a flow chart that all Ford techs have available to them. Ford has had hybrids around for how many years ? No matter what kind of vehicle you're working on a repair is just that - a process. If a Ford dealer cant fix one of their own vehicles and as you say " tried and failed" they should go out of business.

It is quite possible that you are misunderstanding what the dealer is referring to. I forget with Ford. But it is possible that lacking a tech properly trained on a hybrid prevents them from doing warranty work on that type of car. The Mav is no technological marvel, but it is likely more complicated than you think.

The dealership tech thing is what it is. I'm in a small town but at least there are other dealerships in the area. The service manager said that they could look at it, but wouldn't be able to do anything to fix it under warranty. Couldn't even order parts, so I didn't have them bother. Wish they would have at least popped the hood to look, of would have saved me a trip back to get coolant.

Pretty much how I feel about it. It's inconvenient and annoying, but ultimately not a huge deal. Going to laugh if Ford has to have it towed that far though! Hopefully it won't come to that.

Ugh. Ford now says the part is backordered until February 6th. I have a feeling they just tell you the first monday of next month regardless of their actual timeline. Supposedly the part order is as escalated as it can be.

I've stopped driving the truck. The leak is bad, 2 hours of driving and the reservoir is empty. Having to mix coolant and fill frequently is annoying, not to mention the ecological impact of dropping two or three quarts of coolant all over mother nature. I can't park in my garage or the driveway lest I leave puddles.

I called and opened a ticket with Ford today to make a record of this crap. I made it clear that the vehicle was undrivable but I don't think they took me seriously. I'm debating going and leaving it on the lot to start that 40-day timer for lemon law....

Update today... Ford had the manufacturer send the part to the dealership directly, rather than to a Ford plant where it can be repackaged I guess. That part arrived last week. I'm sitting at the dealership now, drinking their coffee and using their wifi waiting on this two hour job. Hopefully, I'll be able to close this thread soon!

So you’re waiting on the exhaust assembly that has the valve for warming the battery?

It doesn't have anything to do with the battery coolant, that is a separate cooling circuit and is not leaking at all. The leak came from the circuit that feeds the radiator.
