Fix: FordPass App Not Working

The Problem
For the past month or two, I've noticed the FordPass app hasn't been working well at all. I could not control any of my truck's features or see its location on GPS.

I called Ford and the rep stated that there are known issues with the older software versions having connectivity issues. She also stated that because of this, the over-the-air and Wi-Fi updates weren't working well. She advised me to use the USB option to update the SYNC software.

The Fix (at least for me)
Here are the steps I followed to fix the issue. *Note: I have a 2023 Lariat with Sync 3, so your results may vary.
  1. Go to Settings > FordPass Connect > Connectivity Settings > Ensure all toggles are turned on (except probably the Data For Insurance toggle).
  2. Go to Settings > Automatic Updates > View Current Software version.
  3. If your version is NOT Version 3.4 AND Build 23188, then you need to update it.
  4. To update: Go to Ford's Site, enter your VIN, and download your SYNC update to a USB drive.
  5. Follow the PDF on their site to update your truck using either a Mac or PC.
It took me about 15 minutes and the app now works great. It also seemed to fix an issue with the screen mode switching back to auto mode from dark mode every time I started the truck.

The heck with Ford Pass.
I open it up today to use it.
There was a new service agreement on it basically you sign your life away.
You agree to arbitration, access the stuff on your phone, etc..
and if you don't like it, Ford says don't use Ford Pass.
Ford made that simple for me.
I won't use it. I don't agree to the company dictating terms.
Companies are using the take it or leave it strong-arm tactics and I won't go for it anymore.

Dang, who knows, perhaps it's due to the auto dealer Ransome ware attack that has about half of all dealers/mfg that use that software. Dealers on it cannot even make appointments and are having to use paper copies if they do.

Do you have a Lariat? This specific fix only applies to Lariats with Sync 3.

What Trim do you have? If XL or XLT without Lux Package You don't have Sync 3 or Nav. (Maps)

I have an XLT Hybrid and get the same message. I'm at Software version 1.0.1. To my understanding there is a 2.0.1. Any idea as to how to get the update on USB?

I’ve finally done it!!!!! After a hard reset and multiple tries both in WiFi and hotspot the update it currently installing!!! I’ve been out here for about 40 min in 89F heat. It sat at 100% for about 3-4 mins after downloading. Just when I was about to restart the truck it started installing. I’m at 75% right now. Trying not to stare at it. lol

Thank you very much. Ford Pass stopped working for me a few months ago and I was waiting until I needed an oil change to have them check it.

I downloaded and installed the update and it works now.
