Remember that you don't necessarily need to sign up for the Farm Bureau of the state you're in. Illinois is only some $26.

I am not a member did not do discount. Long story. But I think there are different types of memberships. Go online and look at what types California offers. Some states have memberships for those who work on farms or seems like someone posted that they joined because they either helped someone selling at farmers market. Who did you call?

Perhaps you were quoted "Agricultural Member Rate". You need to get the "Associate Membership Rate" or they also have "Collegiate Rate" for students.

California does have different options but I think the cheapest is still $100. I joined Indiana for under $30 and others have listed even cheaper states. Makes no difference where you join. After being a member for 30 days you can print out the $500 certificate and use it at any participating dealer. Just make sure your dealer is one of those participating. Not all do.

Also you can have a difference in pricing by joining in different counties in each state.

The least expensive FB membership is Illinois. Most people join the first county on the list, which is Adams County, Illinois. Join online. I think it's ilfb.org or something like that. It was $20 to join last year and I claimed my $500 discount in July. You must be a member for 30 days prior to redeeming. Easy money
