I am coming off of a 22 WRX and drove every Subie on the lot before getting my Mav. I couldn’t believe how slow and clunky the Subes were.

Traded in the mav today for a 24 forester wilderness. I realized that I only used it for actual truck stuff like 3 times in the last 2 years since I got it and that an SUV was more in line with what I really need. The mav was basically a car with a huge trunk and with kids in college that need to be moved twice a year, it makes more sense to have an SUV with more space under cover.

My wife got a forester a few month ago and I liked it much more than I thought I would. It's been a very handy vehicle. The wilderness edition has 9" of ground clearance and comes standard with yokohama geolandars a/t's which seem to be pretty nice all terrain tires. Rides nice, lots of features, good build quality. Should be a good "soft road" vehicle.

I won't crap on the mav like some people have; it was fun to drive and I will miss it. It was the nice being able to order EXACTLY what I wanted almost to the last detail and the whole experience was pretty good. But I didn't look back when I left the subaru dealer.

Ford did a lot of things right with the maverick, but the quality issues dogging the brand keep me from unequivocally endorsing them. I had reliability questions about my truck and part of the reason I traded it at the 2 year mark was so I wouldn't find out the hard way whether it would be reliable long term or not. And the time may come when I need to rely on my vehicle to last a long time.

MTC has been a hoot and was crucial in weathering the interminable 10 month wait between ordering and delivery of my maverick. This forum is a lot more fun than most of the other automotive forums out there.

That helped a lot because in addition to it being past time to replace my old car, the maverick was a present to myself for making it through some health issues. Same with the new subaru and I kind of hope I don't have another excuse to buy a new car any time soon.

I'm sure you will love your Forester as I loved my 2015 for 8 years and 70K + miles. It hauled all my P.A. equipment to many a show as well as a few long-distance trips. For an all-wheel drive SUV it got about 29-33mpg depending on load and speed and I missed it for months after it was gone. I do love my Maverick and so far for me it's been perfect with no issues at all, just two trips for service since January 23. Best wishes to you and safe journeys.

My son bought a 2024 Outback Adventure and I have to say I really like the vehicle. His only complaint he has is there is not enough storage up front, drink holders etc. I have driven it several times and been thinking it could be a replacement for my Honda CRV. And I am a pretty strong Honda guy.

It's not bad. There are bottle slots in the doors. The CRV is nice can't go wrong with that.

I'd strongly recommend test driving both or even to rent one for a week just to see how you like living with it and to find any annoyances.

Since my wife has a forester I was able to drive it for an extended trip and knew it would suit me.

I have a 2023 Forester Wilderness and a 2024 Maverick Tremor. I like them both. I agree that the base Forester is pretty bland, but the Wilderness is significantly better. Similar to the enhanced features of the Tremor, the Wilderness has better throttle response, handling and the Yokohama tires are great. The wilderness has some style, the other models, meh. Overall it's not an inspiring vehicle in terms of power compared to the mav but for me the overall balance weighed toward the subaru.

The wilderness gets worse mpg due to the increased diff ratio, but it's still much better than the mav. I really expected the mav to average in the upper 20's and at times I was getting high teens for mpg. Granted I do almost nothing but short hop stop and go driving but for a vehicle that size you'd think it would better. Not a big issue for me overall but a surprise nonetheless.

A powerhouse it ain't.

Loved the power the mav had at highway speeds, didn't like the turbo lag coming off a stop. I specifically wanted a non turbo engine for that reason. Not really a fan of turbos. Less complexity is better sometimes in my book.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know that about the wilderness. My Mav is the Hybrid so I get great milage but now I have it paid off I'm going to add a full electric to my corral if the deal don't fall through on a Mach E.

I always admired the visibility of the Forester. OP, have fun. The Forester is widely admired by most automotive journalists. It just goes about its business with no big drama or need to be showy.

Odd that you got such bad mpg. I have an AWD ecoboost XLT and taken on road trips. I get like 25 mpg mixed driving and I've gotten as much as 33 mpg on the interstate keeping it at 68-70 mph using premium fuel. Using 87 octane (just tried it once) the mpg drop 1-2 mpg. But yeah, never got in the teens for mpg.

The HPR Maverick we bought June 2024 was sold to our daughter and son-in-law for Carmax appraisal $26K.

Our intent was to purchase another Maverick, AWD Lariat trim. In my area they’re selling at msrp.

Tacomas are heavily discounted, 10% off msrp.

We wound up with an SR5 4WD for about $2K more than a comparable Lariat. BTW the Tacoma has heated seats & steering wheel, wireless charger, upgraded JBL sound system, etc.

Can‘t say a single bad thing about Mavericks or Tacomas. Happy with both.

Let the shade throwing begin.

I've enjoyed your contributions the few years I've been a member here; always balanced with no hyperbole or drama.

Can't fault anyone for going the Forester or CRV route; they are as reliable as the days are long. Enjoy the new ride!

My wife loves her Subaru Crosstrek, not fancy but has been 100% reliable so far, except for the battery. (sound familiar???)

My Mav has been as good so far, expecting it to keep going for me.

The visibility thing is one of the things my wife really likes about it. Restricted visibility is kind of a pet peeve of hers. My old mazda had huge blind spots, the forester is great that way. And I dig the utilitarian vibe, just like I do with the maverick.
