Odd that you got such bad mpg. I have an AWD ecoboost XLT and taken on road trips. I get like 25 mpg mixed driving and I've gotten as much as 33 mpg on the interstate keeping it at 68-70 mph using premium fuel. Using 87 octane (just tried it once) the mpg drop 1-2 mpg. But yeah, never got in the teens for mpg.
I normally do almost exclusively short-hop stop and go commuting - literally the worst for MPG. The hybrid would be ideal were mileage my priority. I posted another thread about being pleasantly surprised to get mid 30's on a long drive that was almost exclusively on flat terrain. Another thing is that the 4k towing package includes a higher ratio differential that will also negatively affect mileage but not really by much.
Plus, I have a heavy foot. ;)

The HPR Maverick we bought June 2024 was sold to our daughter and son-in-law for Carmax appraisal $26K.

Our intent was to purchase another Maverick, AWD Lariat trim. In my area they’re selling at msrp.

Tacomas are heavily discounted, 10% off msrp.

We wound up with an SR5 4WD for about $2K more than a comparable Lariat. BTW the Tacoma has heated seats & steering wheel, wireless charger, upgraded JBL sound system, etc.

Can‘t say a single bad thing about Mavericks or Tacomas. Happy with both.

Let the shade throwing begin.
Heh. My forester has all the bells and whistles too. Heated seats, harmon kardon audio, leather trimmed upholstery, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping, the works. Pretty sure it was cheaper than what you would have to spend to get a fully tricked out lariat. (just checked - yep, it was cheaper).

I heard somewhere they are having trouble selling the new tacomas. I was going to get a 4runner but they are out of my range while I have kids in school. By the time I can afford one they will be into the turbo and hybrid f*cked version which will probably not be as reliable. And I ain't buying someone's sloppy seconds. 🤣

Buy what you like, drive what you like. Life's too short.

I've enjoyed your contributions the few years I've been a member here; always balanced with no hyperbole or drama.

Can't fault anyone for going the Forester or CRV route; they are as reliable as the days are long. Enjoy the new ride!
Thanks! Maybe I need more drama and hyperbole though...🤔

My wife loves her Subaru Crosstrek, not fancy but has been 100% reliable so far, except for the battery. (sound familiar???)

My Mav has been as good so far, expecting it to keep going for me.
What's wrong with the battery? Alternator issue?

Recall on the batteries. Replaced the first one under warranty. I bought the second one, Interstate battery.
No problems since.

So not really a subaru design issue but a bad battery from their supplier?

Yes, just a crap battery. Seems just not Ford with the issue. The sube has been flawless otherwise.

Yes. Several factors including price, engine choices, limited availability of their equivalent of XL trim, etc. A serious blow to their best selling truck.

I‘m purposely avoiding mentioning the other brand name because this forum is about Mavericks.

At msrp, choice would have been a no brainer and a Lariat would be in the driveway but 10% off msrp made for a difficult decision.

Maverick offers a lot of bang for the buck. With prices for Mavericks increasing and content deleted from past model years, hope Ford is watching closely and avoids the same mistake.

It's a shame, toyota seems to be losing it's edge on reliability. I'd like a 4runner someday but want no part of the new complex, tech heavy turbo/hybrid drivetrain. Makes you wonder if they truly understand what their customers really want.

Ford is gonna squeeze every dollar out of the mav that they can. They are in it to make a profit, not to lose money making cheap cars and trucks, which is how it needs to be. If they can charge more for a mav and still sell out the production run every year that's what they will (and should) do. The market sets the price.
