Failed BCM - Engine has delayed shut off

This post is not to whine or complain in any way. It is just to inform others of my issue in case anyone else encounters the same symptom. A few weeks ago my truck began not shutting off when the key was turned and removed. It would kill interior power but not the engine. The first couple of times it caught me off guard and so I cycled the key until it shut off, usually it took several attempts. Then shortly after I realized that if I just left it for 15-30 seconds it would always shut off. I finally had a chance to drop it for service and it has been diagnosed as a bad body control module, and apparently most of the shop took turns marveling at the problem LOL. Anyway, part is on order and truck should be done Friday so I will report back if for any reason this does not fix it.

It's funny how often that happens.

Its pretty amazing what is controlled by the BCM or a "module" now on modern vehicles. Used to it had to be the ignition switch was bad.

That was my assumption initially too. You should see the new German cars, or really any luxury car. Some of these have 13-14 independent modules now.

Shoot, the last training I went to before leaving the dealer was an Electrical recert. The instructor was telling us about the Continental that had just came out and how complex the system was. Door accessory modules, individual seat motor modules. I think I remember him saying one trim level had 12 motors in the driver's seat.

That sounds right. I forget what they ended up calling the production version, but that was for the new 30-way adjustable seat they called the WOW seat in pre-production and testing. I got to see that plus the new audio system (name is escaping me) at the Lincoln design center before it came out.
