I have the MRT gas hood struts, and want to remove the factory hood prop rod.
Looking at it I don't see an easy way without cutting it.
I want to remove it intact.
Has anyone done this and have any tips?

Looks like it is intended to stay put.
Unlike hood springs, these struts do tend to wear out. I've replaced quite a few of them not on hoods but on rear hatches. Might be a nice convenience to just have that prop rod there.
I am all for, it's your truck your choice.

May I ask is there any particular reason you want to remove it?
Take care and good luck

I have not done this, but it sure looks like you could grind off the little nub on the "U" where the rod goes through the hole and then twist the rod and slip it out. I DO agree with the above advice that the gas shocks age, and if you were on the roadside in a tail wind, you might be glad for the backup.

Agree with others. Leave it and you or a future owner will be thankful.
I've fabricated props for the rear hatch of many vehicles starting with an '82 Escort. Old broom handles work well. The gas struts go bad at the most inconvenient times. Usually it's -20 degrees and a blizzard.

Yep, those gas struts will crap out on you at the worst time. You may need that prop-rod before you know it ;)
