Extremely dim interior backlighting when dash is properly set at night

Anyone have issues with the dim backlighting of the buttons on center console at night? If I turn up the interior brightness level to where they are visible, the dash is overly bright. If I turn the dash to normal acceptable levels (roughly 50%) the backlighting on the buttons is practically non-existent. Also the screen is super dim.

In addition, there is zero floor or ambient lighting for the center console. I guess there is a fix for that where you can take up one of your USB-C ports with a light but that screams cheap fix, and certainly isn't congruent with the interior lighting levels.

I know this is a cheap vehicle but it's almost unsafe the lack of interior lighting for it.

The ambient lighting is done through the settings menu in the infotainment center (head unit). Not sure about the brightness from other stuff but yes, I usually do have to adjust it down when it's dark outside which is usually 15 hours per day during winter where I live lol. I don't have an issue with the rest of the dashboard lighting but I do think the placement of the adjustment buttons was just awful and stupid. Having to look around the steering wheel to find them is far from safe.

It is sort of amusing how now days the ambient lighting can be seen as a safety feature, because it truly is. The less you have to take your eyes off the road the better and having ambient light certainly helps the peripherals - but yes, it could be done better especially for those that don't have the center console light and the fact there is nothing for the cup holders.

hmmm. Maybe someone else can chime in here because I'm not sure, but my '22 Lariat came with the center console lighting and I'm not sure about the adjustment for the HVAC buttons. I can't say I've noticed it getting dimmer while driving in the dark and adjusting but I will say I don't think it's bright enough during the daytime especially in cloudy/foggy days which is pretty much every day where I live. It's either super sunny or pretty grim.

For MY23/MY24 only the Lariat has ambient lighting of any kind, full stop. For MY22 we at least got it for the center console. HVAC buttons, as the OP already seems to know, are tied in with the dashboard light level.

One thing that might help is pushing the button that turns off the 8" screen, should help with night vision over all.

Or if you feel the need to have it on, make sure it's set to Auto or Dark Mode. Living in a rural area with no streetlights, driving with it off definitely reduces distracting glare.
