I've thought about this. I'll be picking up a 25 Lariat in a few weeks from Granger. I plan on purchasing the 10 yr / 100 K / 0 deduct with lighting adder on the day I get the truck. My reasoning is that waiting doesn't extended the warranty period since it's based on the first day purchase, BUT there's a chance that in a year or two the cost for the warranty will go up (for the identical coverage).

The longer the warranty period I think the better the chance of getting a return on the investment (a replacement alternator for example in year 5 may cost 50% more 5 years later in year 10). My primary goal would be to purchase as soon before any additional price increases come along (service and parts prices don't ever seem to fall.. they just keep going up and up and up).
Another thing to remember is that the warranty is transferable to the next owner, which will get you a better price when you sell the truck.
