I don't recall if 2.0 EB Mav's ever shipped with them. Maybe very early? I recall something about engine fires being given as the reason they were discontinued.
Even the part was discontinued by FoMoCo. Back when I bought my EB in Oct 2022, I was able to find a cover in stock 130 miles away and grabbed it. I think they referred to it as an "engine cushion cover" because it was thick, dense black molded foam.
Its purpose was to quiet the sounds of the direct injection system. Lincolns with the same 2.0EB came with them and have the Lincoln logo. I do think the cover absorbed a bit of the sound and it made the engine bay look sooo much tidier.
I learned that the key to sound deadening is mass. So the dense foam served that purpose plus covered the engine.
I have seen an aftermarket metal one on this forum. It has lots of slots, probably for ventilation. While it didn't appear in my mind to absorb sound, it did look tidy.
Now I am half-heartedly trying to find an OEM cover for my 2.5L hybrid. FoMoCo discontinued that one too.

My truck runs very quiet with the hood closed. I don't hear that direct injection high pressure fuel pump at all unless the hood is open. Those engine covers are mostly for looks in my opinion.

I got mine from local for dealer for my 22 FX4, back in Oct of 22, it took 3 days to get and had to order it off a Bronco II 2.0 I think, they never came on Mavericks, it cleans up the engine compartment nicely and does quiet down the engine noise. They came on many models with the 2.0 engine. Am sure it was a cost saving thing for ford not to include it on the Mav, cost about 75 bucks with hardware. Good luck finding one now. Tons of posts about this subject if you search from a few years ago, with all the part numbers, took 10 min to install, looks great, covers that mess under the hood and completes the engine compartment.
