Engaging AWD on Maverick?

Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is an advanced drivetrain system that is able to monitor hundreds of different pieces of data every second to help improve handling and traction, including:

• Rate of acceleration
• Wheel speed
• Steering wheel angle
• Accelerator pedal position

Using this information, it is able to send more torque to the rear wheels if it detects bad weather or road conditions, or send all the power to the front wheels in normal driving conditions in order to optimize fuel efficiency.
Some models even come with an Intelligent Display which is able to show you precisely how torque is being distributed between the different wheels.

Just an FYI for everyone saying awd systems are always full time. Ford did offer awd on a Harley Davidson F150 which you could select rwd, awd, or 4h.

Just remember to change the oil in the AWD transfer case at or before the change interval.

difference is the F-150 default mode is 2 wheel RWD, and AWD default is 2 wheel FWD

Lets see . Normal driving front wheel drive . Adverse weather computer controls when and were power goes to wheels slipping . computer shifts power to other (rear) wheels . no knobs . computer controlled . only control is selecting transmission options . tremor may have special controls ? Mine is fx4 and computer controlled and trans special selection options .

The Tremor and I believe the Off-Road AWD version allow you to lock 4WD and overide the AWD algorithm. Like some lockable 4WD vehicles, it may dis-engage above a certain velocity (on the grounds that above a certain speed you probably don't need 4WD.

If your Mav has the AWD option, it is always on unless you deactivate it? The deactivation sensor is located in the cubby next to the screen? Am I understanding this correctly ?

You can get the Tremor version that you can set to stay in 4WD I believe.

I believe my 2001 Escape has this option.....if i remember correctly.
