I recognize this would probably require a roof rack too to get sufficient distance between contact points. But is it possible to safely carry say a 12' aluminum row boat on an elevate rack instead of using a trailer? Why rack instead of trailer? Trailers are bulky, so I really don't have room to store a trailer, but just the boat itself I could stash away (my middle 10 year son loves fishing ... w/his highlight being a 60 lb yellowfin tuna).

Thanks!

What's the estimated weight of your 12 ft aluminum rowboat?

A quick search tells me that an average weight for a 12' v-bottom would be about 200 lbs

My question isn't necessarily can I get it on and off ... it's more .... is it safe to strap on the rack/roof?

The elevate rack is 750 lbs I believe. So if the weight is spread over 3 attachment points, each point would be about 80 lbs assuming 240 lbs total.

If the majority of the weight is carried by the elevation bed rack.
It seems what you would be strapping to the roof rack of the truck, would be negligible.

Heh heh, yeah I was thinking about posting that one, but seriously, minimal size boat going after large sport fish is just a 1/3 scale replica of that situation. Not to mention if you actually wore it out enough to land it, it would be like a meth-head trying to get out off a straightjacket between the passengers with no room to stumble apart from overboard.

I'd say yes. The RealTruck Elevate Truck Rack is a telescoping design so that you can adjust it higher to clear your cab if needed. The max weight capacities are 750 lbs. static, 500 lbs. on-road, and 250 lbs. off-road, making it strong enough to support the load.

Feel free to DM me if you still have questions. I can also put together a quote for you.
