For those who have been following this thread wondering if any resolution came, I can triumphantly report that after nearly six months, the City of Newport Beach informed me that no action on my part is needed regarding this citation.

They'll probably charge the other party for being late!

Back in the mid 1980's, I parked my Toyota PU in D.C. and received a parking ticket. I had Arkansas tags and they wrote the ticket up using the Alaska (AK) state code instead of the Arkansas (AR) state code. Threw it in the trash and went on living my life absconding from the law.

And just last week, somewhere in Alaska, someone got a letter from DC saying they owe $73,241.12 for an unpaid parking ticket with accrued late charges.
Apparently, he threw it in the trash and went on living life without plans to visit DC...

I would say that I stand corrected, but I'm currently sitting down..

I forgot to add in the administrative overhead costs of the committee formation to address interstate Alaskan parking ticket collection actions, which required the first class flight of several hundred officials, 5 star hotel accommodations, urgent clerical support at triple overtime, an entire fleet of rental cars, the VIP trip to see the glaciers, and solid gold participant awards to all attendees.

Sadly, after the report was finalized, after 6 months of heated debate on the report's language, it was determined that someone wrote a K instead of an R on the ticket, and while the proposed interstate collection system proposal was deemed to be moot, the incredible cost savings from repeating a similar future event, resulted in a bonus for all involved.

The results of this highly successful analysis will pay dividends in future cost savings by applying the valuable lessons learned.

From now on, when someone writes a K instead of a R on a ticket, the citation will be administratively dismissed. Unfortunately, when a vehicle from Tennessee (TN) is accidently written with the abbreviation for Texas (TX) the prior lesson learned does not apply, and it's time for another government road trip...

That's about the size of it. We are $40 trillion in debt so if we pay $1 million a day toward the principal, no interest, that's $365 million a year. I had to get my head around this calculation and use scientific notation on my calculator. Just the principal paid at $365 million per year, our national debt will be totally paid off in 109,589 years. So tickets and taxes just need a lot more zeros added to the right.

Just to put a trillion in perspective, a trillion seconds equals 31,710 years!

If the US debt were only $40,000,000,000,000.00 that would just be bad.
With unfunded liabilities, the current estimate at US debt is over $175 Trillion, that doesn't include state and city debt, to which another $10 Trillion could be added.

Good thing the Maverick has a seat belt reminder chime...
