EcoBoost Maverick, really ?

I didn’t say combined total. No, I have not driven one. This is my first experience with a vehicle that has a standard hybrid engine. So I was a bit educated when I learned that this particular hybrid gets better city mileage than highway. I don’t know, but maybe all hybrids get better city than highway. I commute to work 25 miles each way and 18 of those are on I95. So the 2.0 is not a bad choice for me especially if I can take the Maverick on the beach or up into the mountains with the available AWD.

Yes, most hybrid mileage is higher in the city because the electric motor is being used more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more power, and the double the towing is awesome...
But id just think that mileage would be more important for most folks.
I'm hearing that the 2.0 ECO boost will likely get somewhere around 26mpg, which impo, is about as terrible as I'd expect from a small ICE truck.

I would have guessed (before coming to this forum) Ford would sell 10 to 1 of the 2.5L hybrids to the 2.0 ECO boost, but apparently not

From a personal standpoint, if I had to stick to an ICE truck, I'd just stick with my F150. That truck is my baby, I can just barely afford to drive it

I commute 60 miles a day, three days a week. I would estimate that 50-55 miles of my commute is highway. A hybrid won't do too much for me since they seem to have the most benefit with around town use. With that being said, I would've opted for the hybrid if they had an AWD option.

I am the outlier here and while fuel economy is important, the driving experience is a more meaningful. I want to drive something that evokes emotion and makes me smile. If I cared more about fuel economy, I wouldn't have sold my 2015 Prius. I'm hoping the AWD 2.0L Ecoboost Maverick to land somewhere in the mid-20's for fuel economy but more importantly, take well to being thrown around in the twisties.

Absolutely wrong. A hybrid does not get a LOT worse mileage on the freeway than it does in city. Its just because it gets "better AT ALL" (which has never been the case with ICE vehicles) that this even gets so much attention in the first place. My Prius was supposed to get 52 city, and 48 highway. Instead, its gotten 53 for its entire lifetime of 53K miles, and it has been driven 80% freeway.
Now, I understand this is a truck... kind of. But I suspect that this 40 mpg was obtained two ways 1) by making it a hybrid. 2) by gearing it more like a car, than a truck.

True, but its not a lot more. Hybrids get great mileage EVERYWHERE they are driven.

The infinite gear ratio of the eCVT is pretty beneficial for the gas engine ratio at highway speeds. The electric motor is even able to run at fairly high speeds up about 82mph so if you're travelling on a slight downgrade and the load is low enough it'll still switch over to full electric.

And that's great, for YOU. Different strokes for different folks. I don't understand why people aren't getting that. You know, its the whole reason there are two different powertrain choices in the first place.

Your numbers are irrelevant to me, as I'm sure mine are to you. I drive 10k miles a year and gas here is the highest it's been in several years and I paid $2.52 a couple of days ago. But wait, even all of that is irrelevant because I have a 2,600 lb boat/trailer to tow around so the Hybrid is automatically ruled out of the equation.

how many Starbucks coffees do you get for $500? To put things in perspective working a 40 hour week at new minimum wage $15/hr is $600.00. Basing a decision of a vehicle purchase (2nd biggest lifetime purchase behind a house for most people) just to save $500.00 a year on fuel cost seems penny wise and pound foolish to me

I get you're smiling there but there was a lot of flack against conventional hybrids b/c of their premium price. Hybrid was a premium markup scam that took 15+yrs to payback in gas savings, blah blah blah. What Ford did here with Maverick is tilt the scales in the opposite direction. Maverick Ecoboost is more expensive to buy than the hybrid. And then the gas savings go on top as icing on the cake. So no, I'm not the foolish one.

I wasn't touching the twist beam rear suspension with a 10-foot pole. However, that's just the enthusiast in me for preferring some engaged driving dynamics. I like a little, somewhat decent driving dynamics, and the multi-link rear of the AWD configuration should provide that edge for me, darn it! Haha!

I would have highly considered Hybrid AWD or PHEV AWD configurations if the power numbers could have met or exceeded 2.0T AWD configuration w/ 4K tow ability.
