Hi Everyone,

Im new to the group, I just have some general questions about the HPFP.

I've noticed some noise increase from the HPFP compare to when I first got the car about 1 year ago, and I've also noticed some gasoline smell from the engine oil cap. I brought it back to the dealer, and they said it's normal noise and it's within the acceptable range.

I was thinking about to change the HPFP myself, and I'm seeking your advice on that. And if anyone has the procedure manual for this work (my understanding is that, the new unit needs to be installed, when the cam is flat, I'm not sure how to rotate the cam while the car is off).

Thank you

Just to add:

No code found, and the car still starts normally, just the ticking noise is getting louder.

They are inherently noisy. It took some getting used to on our first GDI engine so by the time the Jeep 2.0 and Maverick 2.0 came along I'm used to it.

My recommendation, for what it is worth, is to change the oil in the EB every 3K miles or so, always burn top tier gas (most of it is) and use full synthetic oil.

I am not a certified mechanic, just a 75 year old gear head. :ROFLMAO:

GDI engines are ticky. Leave it alone, it's fine. If you don't use a motorcraft part you are giving them a reason to invalidate your warranty.

The oil smells like fuel because the turbo blows more fuel past the piston rings. Supposedly long highway trips where everything gets good and hot for a while helps evaporate the fuel from the oil.

I'm just changing the oil every 5k instead of the recommended 10k in part because I rarely do long highway drives but instead almost exclusively stop and go.

Also did you price a pump? $$$. Check the foam cover, try a new one or add some noise cancelling cover to it, like for body panel rattles. Clicking is the nature of operation for this part.

Its pumping at just under 3000psi, and its really hard for that not to make some noise. If its making more now, maybe you are using a different oil. If you don't have an engine fault code showing, its fine. Its pretty rare for the pump to fail. It is much more likely for the pressure sensor to start misreading and show a code, as Ford has installed bad batches of these over the 11 years that they have been running this setup.

For the incremental gains I don't think the cylinder injection is worth it.

When you change the oil get the used oil tested.

You can estimate the GDI advantage at about 15% better fuel efficiency due to the ability to create a stratified charge and due to the better cooling effect allowing for a higher compression ratio with the same fuel. You should also see about 50% better midrange torque. It is most definitely worth it.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update with dealer's response. Upon checking the HPFP, they claimed that the noise was normal, and nothing was fixed. A few weeks after that, once I removed the HPFP cover, I noticed that there are some oil residuals around the area. Now the dealer wants to change the HPFP, and the gasket seal. I'm not sure if they are doing the correct thing tbh.
