Has anyone removed their mirror cover? Is so did you have to remove the whole assembly or were you able to release the clips to allow the back cover to pop off the assembly?.

I need to send the cover out for paint work, and I believe I should be able to remove the outer cover by releasing the tabs behind the mirror glass.

Any help would be appreciated.

You don't have to remove the whole mirror. You pop the mirror glass off then you can remove I think 4 screws then you need to use something like a pick to carefully undo all the plastic latches holding the mirror cap on. It's kind of frustrating but if you're patient and gentle eventually it'll come off.

Look at the Suma performance website. I believe they show how to remove the mirror safely.

Just use a screwdriver and a towel. The glass just pops off when you use the screwdriver. I used a towel to keep the screwdriver from scratching the outer plastic. The glass pops off pretty easily just be prepared for it to fall.

When you say it just pops off with a screwdriver, do I need to release any tabs on the mirror glass itself. ?

I placed the mirror up and inward and tried slideing a thin flat blade in the lower outboard corner as a pry. How much pressure do I need to apply? Am I supposed to feel a release tab or anything. I don't want to break the glass.

Also are you prying against the glass or the black bezel ring

Not really sure what to tell you, if I still had my Mav I would make a video. It's similar to the video above, you need a decent amount of pressure on the corner outwards towards you and it will pop off. That's the easy part, getting the actual mirror cap off is 10 times more difficult.

Ever get your mirror glass out? I'm going to try to vinyl wrap my covers but need to get the glass out and am having the same issue as you, vaguery. I tried with a pick at what look like are clips but no release. Do you just wedge a flat blade in and twist?

Found it. I had to replace the driver side mirror after my wife got too close to a wall in the parking garage at work.

First, remove the mirror glass, if you don’t have plastic trim tools try a plate spatula or wooden spoon. Form pressure increasing gently till it pops off.

Next, remove the 4 screws in the front bezel.

Then, move the five tabs away from the stands, they act like metal and will stay back to remove the front bezel.

Now, you can see the three tabs in the back on the rear cover. Bottom one is about an inch wide pry between that and the cover, second and third are on the outside end and on the top…very difficult to see and get to. This will allow the rear cover to slide off the back.
You cannot get to the tabs without removing the front
