I was about to do that same thing, since I jist got put to my garage, lol. Another thing you can do, is buy a factory flange and take it somewhere to have it water jetted out of steel to make your own flange.

Your measurements have honestly been invaluable. Any chance I could ask you to take the measurement from the bottom edge of the outlet flange to the catback flange (see image). I think I might be on to something but need to confirm a few things.

It will be really loud after you lose the cat and resonator in the factory downpipe.
May want a flex joint in there too and a anti fouler extension on rear o2 sensor . For the hassle , id consider one of the aftermarket open pipes available in cheap ss at least . Will save you a lot of time .

Definitely including flex joint and defouler. Honestly a bit shocked that there's all the space in the world for a defouler and it doesn't need a J pipe like most modern fwd applications.

I run my factory cat back exhaust on my straight through DP and it's not loud at all. It might be a few decibles above stock.

So...been a while since I've posted here so here's an update.

Reverse engineered K03 flange using the gasket. Between material and machine shop labor I'm in that about $150 (there was a k03 flange based off the 20v vw 1.8T for like $50 iirc but it was shipping from Germany and I didn't want to deal with an international return if it wasn't what I needed).

Got everything else besides hangers, 3 bolt flange (not pictured, that's in a Summit order that should arrive tomorrow.) for downpipe via Fortluft to the tune of about $100. No this isn't a final fit. This is just a mock up to get an idea of what we're looking at. I'm also aware that the clamp on hangers might not be the cleanest presentation but I figures being able to fine tune how it hangs without cutting and starting over may be to my benefit. Also splurged for the Super Flex connector so that the build may offer me a bit more forgiveness as far as alignment if need be.

The catback on the other hand is in one piece (it's got a midpipe [in theory], a muffler, and a tip. I'm sticking with calling it a catback). Also I plan on recycling the factory hanger by bolting it to the crossmember in the transmission tunnel.

All said I'm about $500 into my exhaust. I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out.

Cherry Bomb Red. Looks good. I'd love to hear how not quiet your Ripper is.

After a few minor headaches and delays, everything is installed. Think there's still some vibration related to how I mounted the glasspack (hangers are perched on the little exhaust tunnel cross member with 3/8" heater hose as isolators) and I'm pretty sure those hot spots are from sitting in traffic (being a single exhaust I don't think there's any effective way to keep the exhaust from slowing down besides maybe wrapping the muffler, and that seems like a big maybe) but otherwise I love it. Will download cold start video soon!

Also, consider this an "ask me anything" thread as far as downpipe design goes. There was a former member that did this group dirty to make a buck and I vanna try to give back in a meaningful way. This shouldn't be about the money. This should be about camaraderie and helping each other disturb the peace the best we can.

speaking of headaches, how loud is that glasspack? and do you have a resonator, or is it straight off the catalyst?

More Vibration than added noise unless you lean into it...but then again...shouldn't it make more noise if you lean into it?

Resonator is packed with steel wool. Glasspack is packed with fiberglass. Figured using Glasspack as a resonator was close enough.

And well that depends on your definition of catalyst.
