That’s been one of my paranoid concerns since putting them on. Didn’t know how much water may actually creep during rain or car washes. I read in the reviews that someone used clear silicon at the ends to seal them off. Not sure if water would creep in anywhere else with how snug they are along the doors.
It didn't happen overnight took a couple of years but it did happen 🥺

I've always used a small bead of silicon in the strip before I installed them. No room for rust and as they age they don't start getting loose and coming off.
Thanks for this tip. I haven’t put my clear one’s on yet and was debating putting them on at all but this tip leads me to putting them on now.

No problem. In your case I'd use clear 100% silicone. My order is in the Carbonized Gray like the og poster. I will probably use black silicone.

If you use this trim you could try filling the trim with high temperature grease. It shouldn't do any harm. It'll fill any voids. It'll repel water and protect against rust. I would imagine It'll make removal a breeze. Maybe too easy.

My experience with these over the edge type protector strips. ( I bought my first car in 1971). Is that over time you end up with a marred area on the finish of the door panel near the edge that won't even buff out. It moves any potential damage from hitting the edge to the surface where stuff (dirt, debris,) collects and leaves finish damage. I find it a better solution to just touch up the edge over time if needed. Another option to prevent damage is PPF on the door edges works if you replace the film from time to time to maintain it.

I bought some but in clear. Will be putting it on this weekend. Hope it looks good.
I have clear ones on my 2015 Escape. They turned white after about 6 years. I don’t like them. I’ll go back to black ones when the Mav arrives. They were useful when I parked in a downtown parking garage daily.

I really appreciate you guys that put door edge guards on. It lets me know that I shouldn't park next to you.
