I installed an AudioControl A110.5 5 channel amp in my 2025 Maverick non B&O. When setting the gains, only a 1/4 turn from 0 is way to much on my Kicker KS series speakers. Do I need to install load generators? It seems like the factory stereo is trying to compensate for something and sending way to much power or a very distorted signal. I just got my o scope and am getting ready to test the signal from the stereo for distortion but was wondering if anyone has encountered this.

What's your input level set to?

Unless I misunderstand (totally possible) you're sending an amplified signal - rather than a preamp signal - into an amplifier.

You are adjusting the gain. There is no reason to turn it to any certain position. Optimally, put a scope on it & turn the head unit up until it clips/distorts, then back off a little, now set your gain on the amp to where the amp clips/distorts and back that off a little. You have now set your system for maximum signal to noise. You then know that any distortion you hear below your known max is either the speakers or the source.

Non amplified radio other than the head unit power from the OEM system into the line level inputs on the amp which can handle up to 20V. I've read that on some newer systems, if the factory head unit does not see a load on it, it can send messed up signal through the speaker wires to compensate for a blown speaker.
