To be honest I don't know that any of us have much leverage.

If your dealer did COV (Customer Order Verification) then you have leverage (to complain) if your truck comes in an they try to sell it to any one else. Ie. you have leverage to call Ford directly and report the dealer as shady but no leverage to obtain another vehicle.

I put a refundable $500 down, but that really doesn't guarantee me anything. It was just a requirement to be allowed to put in an order. In the end I will either get my Maverick at some price or get my $500 back. This money didn't buy me anything other than a promise that my intent is serious.

On my order sheet the salesmen did write down that I would pay the Out the Door price on the order sheet with the exception of any manufacturer price increases. If they decided to backpedal on that, since they didn't sign anything, I have no leverage.

I interviewed each dealership in my area before I ordered through them to "feel better" about their intent regarding ADM, extra fees, added accessories, etc. It doesn't give me any leverage, only the hope that I chose a dealership with integrity. If you never asked your dealer about their pricing, fees, and accessories then then you really have no grounds to complain when they surprise you. But even if you ask them now and like all of their answers there isn't much you can do to keep them from changing their mind.

The only leverage you have if things go ugly is the threat of spreading the word about the dealership's bad tactics, and promising to never come back. If reputation and customer satisfaction means anything to them then that is your only leverage.

So if you never clarified the terms of your purchase do it now. They won't make any promises or sign any guarantees but you should at least be less surprised.

My salesperson verified by email that it would be MSRP and nothing added I did not want. Of course that would not really be legally binding but that's what they did when I picked it up. They tried to sell me a couple of things I did not want but they were cool about it.

You could contact them now so at least you would know sooner rather than later.
Even this is worth quite a lot. See if you can just confirm your order over email if possible.

Sure - you might not be able to enforce it through legal means but let's be honest - if you're seriously considering third party adjudication over an agreement to sell a truck then you're probably done with this dealer anyway and frankly, it's not worth the cost or time to go through that. (It could be less trouble to just pay a modest ADM on another Maverick off a lot; nothing astronomical of course.)

Fortunately you don't need a legally binding notarized sales contract to create an incentive for the dealer to treat you fairly. Anything in writing that undeniably came from a representative of the dealership should be sufficient. It gives you enough to raise a ruckus with all the parties that can make future business really really difficult for the dealer - and they know that.

Got my scheduling email today! Ordered back in September 2022. Ordered a 2023 Lariat Tremor.

The day I went to order I didn't have to pay any down payment. My concern is if I have any leverage now to make sure the dealer doesn't try to add any charges above MSRP.

Any suggestions on what I can do to prevent this?
Is it too late to do anything about it and will I just have to see what happens when I go in for the pickup and finalize the purchase?

My idea was to see if I could cancel the order if I can't get a guarantee MSRP price from them before the delivery day? I'm honestly worried they ordered it for me just so they can overcharge me and then sell it themselves and make a huge profit.
No leverage, no way to prevent anything. Yes on bolded part above. The worry part is voluntary and not helpful in any way. Go there with concrete purchase payment options in hand (hopefully you aren't counting on trading in as part of deal?), check out the truck, and if you don't feel comfortable with any part of the process with dealer, get up and start walking without comment. They'll either try to stop and engage you about your concerns or not. That tells you what you need to know about their intentions and sales M.O.

Always go in with open mind and hope for the best. Good luck 🍀

Wishing you the best. I am sure they will try to hit you with the roughly $500 price increase that includes some shipping increase, but hopefully they will honor the DORA pricing like my dealer did. Just hope they do not try to do an ADM of a few thousand dollars. Let us know how it comes out.

Wish me luck everyone. I guess I'll just go in on pickup day and hope my dealer is reputable. If worse comes to worst I will have to resort to telling them I will post all about the bad experience. Albeit I was the fool who didn't get anything in writing first. Sucks that it even has to be something we have to worry about. I will also post if it turns out my dealer is a good one. Thanks for the advice everyone.
Bad part is since you were just scheduled you have another fews months of sleepless nights wondering. Good luck.

Nothing the order invoice summary.

I researched too late on what to get from them initially. So I guess I got no leverage : ( that sucks.
You have leverage. Be prepared, I am. I'm in the same situation. If games are played when and if your Maverick ever comes in, be ready. The last thing Ford and the dealership wants is bad publicity. Have all the names of your TV stations Consumer Reporters, the BBB, Radio Consumer people, newspapers, etc., etc. If the dealership jacks up the price, let them know you are going to notify ALL. Don't feel bad about it if your dealership is trying to screw you over. Remember, you are not going to fight little battles, let them know if they don't honor the deal, you are going ahead with ALL the notifications about the dealership. TMan

It all comes down to what kind of dealer you ordered from. There's essentially just 2 kinds.

Call your salesman and ask him if they will honor an Xplan or is this a straight up MSRP deal? You will then know before signing day if they are going to charge some bullshit ADM. Good luck.

I worried about the same. I likewise had no deposit, and little in the way of paperwork.

I eventually emailed my salesman, saying that I have heard of significant ADMs and other games at other dealers, and could he confirm that they would be honoring MSRP plus the doc fee that we agreed on the day I ordered. He replied that I would be paying exactly that, plus taxes, and anything (service plans, etc.) that I wanted to add at signing. I was happy to have that reply.

The dealer respected the terms, without any hint of trouble.

Email your salesman. I hope it works equally well for you.
