Hey everyone! First time posting here, but I've been lurking for a while. A couple weeks back (8/2, to be exact), I went and pulled the trigger on ordering a 2025 Maverick. I didn't get any confirmation email from Ford, which seems pretty common, and still haven't gotten one now. I am not too worried about the email, but want to make sure I have the information I need to be able to track this at some point down the road.

I have seen folks mention things like sales codes, order codes, order numbers...I have the first two (sales code and order code) from the Preview Order sheet my dealership gave me, but I haven't seen anything labeled an "order number." It looks like Ford's online tracking system requires an "order number" and a VIN. Is the "order number" just another term for the four-digit "order code" I already have? Or should I call my dealership to track down that "order number?"

One more question...since I didn't get the Ford confirmation email, I'm not relying on the auto emails to alert me when a VIN is assigned. I know these things aren't getting built until mid-November, but usually how far out are the VINs assigned? At what point should I be logging onto that Ford chat and asking them if there's a VIN?

Thanks everyone and sorry if this is answered elsewhere in the forum archives...I tried searching but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Also...for anyone interested, I ordered an XLT AWD hybrid with the lux package, 4k tow, Co-Pilot 360, all-weather mats, and the spray-in bedliner. All in Eruption Green, of course!

Call your dealer and make sure they gave the correct email address. I ordered a higher trim later than you and I've received an email confirmation from Ford.

Thanks. I probably will at some point but it seems like there have been pretty widespread issues there anyway...

Before a VIN is assigned, look for your scheduled build date/week. Usually, the VIN is assigned within 5 days or so of the build. Usually before but, I have heard of it being later. Once you get your order number, call Ford chat with it and your dealers code to confirm your order. I've also heard of dealers not providing your email address to Ford so you have to deal with them for the info.

How will I know the scheduled build date/week before I have the VIN? The Ford tracking website asks for the VIN.

Most people get an email from Ford, but if they don't have your email address on file because the dealer did not provide one: this is where your dealer generated order number provided to Ford by the dealer comes into play. Ford chat will use the dealer code and your order number to look up any related info on your order. Your order number should appear on paperwork you have, if not get it from your dealer (sales rep/manager).

First, look at the sticky topics at the top of this subforum to see all the terms and the process explained.

VIN is waaaay down the road. They assign a VIN once they've decided a production week.

I ordered my 2024 on Leap Day (2/29). I got an email confirmation from Ford immediately (really, it's weird you don't have that).

Last week I started panicking because Ford still hadn't given me a production date. I got in touch with the salesman at the dealership. The next morning he called me back along with his sales manager. They told me that my order had just entered "Preview" status and that within two days it should be assigned a VIN, which meant it would be produced.

Two days later, they gave me the VIN and said it was scheduled for the week of 9/23. That was Friday, and here it is Monday night and Ford still hasn't sent me anything about scheduling, but when I enter my order number and VIN into that website, it shows up and tells me week of 9/23.

Yeah, looking at those stickied posts were what got me here in the first place with the original question of order number vs. order code. I honestly could not find anything explaining that distinction/difference. Sorry if I just missed it.

Everyone is pointing out that I am missing that third number and that the sales code and order code aren’t enough to track all this. I know the VIN comes later but the Ford website tracker requires it and just wanted to make sure I knew how to get it without the emails.

Thank you!

Got it. My paperwork only shows a sales code and an order code, but no order number. Guess I’m missing that. Thank you!

On my preview order sheet, the sales code and order code were the numbers used. The order code was the order number and the sales code is the dealer sales number.

Oh wait...so there isn't a difference between "order code" and an "order number" and all I am missing is the email? Sorry, I know that seems super basic and boneheaded now that I am reading it, but it was honestly confusing me, Just clearly stating it now in a sentence in plain text so if anyone else has the same confusion the search function will actually pull this thread up for them.

Actually, if your email gets in the system you shouldn't have to worry about it much because you should get all the updates. Only your dealer can input your email info, they just may have entered it in error so clarify with them. Order confirmations just recently started coming out for the '25's, so maybe yours is soon to arrive also.

Great advice. Yeah, I am definitely going to be checking in on the email thing. Appreciate you!
