Yeah that's what I figured. But you're saying with wireless Carplay you're able to charge your phone wirelessly, right?
Technically the answer to your question is yes, but not specifically, no. Hopefully I’m answering your question right and not being redundant.

Carplay is just the “screen mirroring” like Android Auto does. It’s just Apple’s version. The wireless charging is MagSafe, and it’s separate from CarPlay. It just allows for magnetic wireless charging without damaging the phone. I still had to buy a separate Bluetooth dongle for CarPlay in order to use it wirelessly. But yes, I am able to charge wirelessly and transmit the data to CarPlay at the same time.

Initially when I got the iPhone I thought I could use a MagSafe charger like a USB cable and that the MagSafe charger would allow for CarPlay recognition but it’s not possible because the charger doesn’t transmit data. Thus, in order to achieve full wireless integration I needed both devices.

I like it, but went a different route and routed the wire through a small hole in the back, but your way works too. Well done!

I do like the idea of having extra USB inputs up top. If my wife forgets to charge her phone it would alleviate a lot of “WHERE IS THE CHARGER I NEED IT FOR TIKTOK” every time she gets in.

I could have lived without the extra ports but they come in so handy, with the wireless dongle taking the main dash port away (but I love not having to plug in to get Android Auto on the display). There's the ports on the back of the console, too.

Thanks for all the responses. I see the issue with my comment: what I meant to say was "...with wireless Carplay being used for the dash you're able to charge your phone wirelessly with the magsafe charger..."
What I see is that with wireless AA my Android phone discharges at a higher rate than the charge provided by my wireless charger (Qi) setup. Either because
A. Like you mentioned Android doesn't optimize apps as well as Apple does
B. My AA dongle runs on Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi and draws too much power to transmit all that data to the dash
C. My wireless Qi charger is rated lower than yours

I'll try your magsafe but either ways I'm okay with my setup for day to day use. It becomes a concern only for longer (2 hr +) drives where the phone cannot stay charged.

Again, the ask for the write-up. Love all the solutions on this forum

Well so the only problem is that the MagSafe charger is only designed for Apple phones. Since the iPhone 12 they implemented a magnetic ring into the back of the phone and through some sort of witchcraft it doesn’t interfere with the internal electronics and allows for the phone to magnetize to anything, but specifically allows it to use Apple’s proprietary charging pucks, the MagSafe chargers (and other accessories).

To be honest I’ve never tried a MagSafe charger on a Google phone but Im certain either it won’t magnetize properly, won’t charge or worst case would end up causing damage to the internal of the phone due to the magnets.

I didn’t realize that what you meant was that the charger couldn’t keep up. If that’s the case I’d guess that the charger itself isn’t getting enough juice, or it can’t output enough to offset the drain.

Apple claims that the MagSafe chargers output “up to” 15 watts, which is equivalent to most standard cable chargers at 2.4 amps from a brick. But last I remember with Android phones, a lot of the Qi chargers available only put out 5 watts or so. That would be roughly the same as using a 1 amp charger from a brick. So if that’s accurate to your situation, my bet would be that the charger isn’t outputting enough.
