I'm not "freaked out", but I don't relish the thought of getting stranded or waiting for a tow vehicle. Part of my commute is in an area difficult for tow vehicles to access. I did add a Noco jump box and some Vice-Grip pliers to the vehicle in the hopes to mitigate the stranding issue, provided the failure mode is typical of others posted on the forum (that being that a jump box will allow me to limp to the dealer or home, and that the failed connection is the accessible one under the hood).

My guess is that the whole harness is suspect, otherwise the recall would likely just involve replacing the underhood lug.

You either love hybrids and they're the greatest thing since sliced bread, or you don't. As an engineer, I consider them a painfully awkward, Rube Goldberg, "halfway to BEV" stopgap solution. The worst thing an engineer can do for reliability is make the whole system more complex. Guess what a hybrid does?

At the same time, I can emote and easily see how non-engineers would consider them a brilliant choice. When they work, they work great. When they don't work, they tend to not work very expensively. And in the Maverick, you've got a long warranty behind that hybrid. And it's dirt cheap, almost to the point where you figure there has to be minimal profit margin.

Lemme be fair and say buying an EcoBoost is just as problematic. A highly stressed, high compression, very hot engine with forced induction and direct injection is a perfect recipe for a short engine lifespan. It could be worse, you could be buying a Bronco Sport with a 3 cylinder turbo engine pushed way beyond sanity.

We're all on a journey to pure BEV anyway. A good number of members here will stomp and howl and scream "You'll pry my gasoline engine from my cold dead hands!". But if they live to buy a new car in 2030, odds are it will be a BEV and they'll love it.

Bottom line. If the hybrid is already worrying you, you probably shouldn't get one. If you're not a worrier and you like the fuel economy - by all means join a gazillion happy hybrid owners out there and put the money you save to buying your spouse a nice dinner out now and then.
To me, a vehicle that you have to find somewhere to charge with high amperage electricity is way more complex than a gas vehicle with electric motor assist and regenerative braking. I'm not an engineer, but I always wanted to drive a train. (I also have worked with engineers, and had to explain to them how things worked in 3D).

IAgree with much of what you said... I do find error with the statement below.

Hybrid drivetrains are electronically more complex, but mechanically far simpler. Pick your poison, I guess.
I recently picked up an 05 Mercury mariner Hybrid. The way the transmission is set up, I don't know why they don't build all cars like this, with a smaller motor to "shift" the transmission and start the engine. Once volume was high enough, I have to think the per unit cost would be below what current multi speed transmissions are. And no hearing the starter grind at intersections every time the stop / start activates.

When my Mav comes in I’ll have a 9 hour drive home with it. I was a bit worried about the cable issue but since my build date is in Sept I’m hoping it will be fixed from the factory.

The Maverick is my second hybrid vehicle., after owning a 13-year-old Prius that still has its original hybrid battery. Five months and just under 7000 miles on the Maverick and have had ZERO battery issues. So, I’m not worried at all.

Please explain the recall. I am not aware of a recall concerning this issue.

it’s just a simple take the non connected piece out and replace it with an eyelet and crimp it on. Replace the heat shrink as well. It takes less than 5 minutes!
Does it require a Copper or Aluminum connector?

We did copper at our dealership. Had a good crimp on it and done! No problems. Again about 5 minutes!

I keep seeing more and more threads, both here and on Reddit, about Hybrid owners with battery drainage issues (I.e. waking up to a completely dead truck in the garage that needs to be jumped) or even hybrids that entirely shut down while in motion - including at highway speeds. This all apparently has to do with an issue with the wiring harness but I have to say, it’s making me second guess my thoughts about ordering a 2023 Hybrid. Anyone else starting to get cold feet?
No.

Assuming it’s 4/0 lug. You can get a crimp tool, tinned lugs and heat shrink tubing for about $85.00 to DIY.
