I ordered my Maverick XLT with a bunch of added options on November 22, 2021. After Ford sent out the mass e mail talking about which add ons were holding back production i decided to change my order.
Since i hadn't gotten a VIN, late March I decided to change my order from an XLT to an XL with just the bed mat and tri-fold cover, pretty much getting rid of all other added options.
The dealer told me they couldn't change my order in the system but they would contact their ford rep to see if they could make the changes and get back to me with any updates.
Two weeks later i get an e mail from the dealer telling me i got a VIN and scheduled production date. I was SUPER EXCITED... until i noticed my order was all wrong. Instead of changing to an XL they changed it to a Lariat. The truck is gonna end up being about $4k more than my updated order should have been and the sales person at the dealer told me there's nothing they can do now.
As most of us have been, I'm SUPER frustrated. I called a Ford phone number someone posted here and they advised me to contact the dealer's management directly to figure something out.
Any advice??

Have the dealer come off 4K. But they probably did it on purpose so you decline buying it.

I’d advise you to buy it and pray that the dealership doesn’t add on $3-$5k worth of useless add-on junk to further increase their profits. As you are probably aware, they are praying you decline the vehicle to pad their profits even more!!

Hmmm....sure sounds sketchy.....makes you wonder what this dealer is up to. Could be an honest mistake, but sure doesn't seem like it. Their willingness to make it right, or not, will show their hand.

If you can swing the budget, and can get it at MSRP or lower (yeah, right!) I would still buy it. Otherwise, your only choice is to walk, and start over.

Can you produce a paper trail proving the changers you made? If you communicated via text or email, print copies and take them to the dealership. Use them to help you try to negotiate a reduction in the Lariat price. Maybe start hard, demanding to pay the agreed upon price of the XL but be willing to accept much less. Honestly, if they come down off Lariat MSRP at all, it will be surprising. I don't think they are legally obligated to honor any agreement that took place informally via text or email and they have plenty of rea$on$ to let you walk away.

Sorry to keep reading these stories of dealer problems. You can complain to City Hall and probably nothing will happen. If they had 30 Mavericks on their lot, they would work with you.

Now they will do nothing. Sad.

If prices are still high when it comes in (and you get it at MSRP), you could buy it and then sell it for a profit (which could be several thousand dollars). Then you could apply that profit to your next order.

I know that's not what you want, but it is a way to come out a bit ahead.

You ordered relatively late, change your late order and have a truck coming. The dimwit salesman messed up your order, but still a truck coming nonetheless. 😏
