There's a difference between accepting it and understanding that it happens so that you're able to take steps to avoid it.

If you think this is specific to Ford dealers, provide evidence of that, because you're kidding yourself.
Kia said they build me a sportage hybrid to my specs in 3 months. Nothing about what I am saying is jest. They also said there was one arriving in 2 weeks that i could buy now, that is roughly what i am looking for.

You found a good dealer in pa? Do tell.
I found a great dealer here in Cleveland area. Liberty Ford. The came up with Maverick for me from order that was no longer wanted by original purchaser. Sold it to me for MSRP. After hearing all these stories about markup, I feel so blessed with them. They have made me a customer for life.

Ideally, you ask and are told up front if they have "required" add-ons. But you are 100% incorrect if you think they can't force them. They can and they do, and there is nothing you can do about it short of walking away from the purchase.
This may vary from state to state.
Coworker bought a Mach-e from a dealership in the next county north from me. That dealership does the 'ceramic and interior protection' thing on every stock vehicle and you cant' dodge it if you want to buy straight off the lot. However, on custom orders, they cannot add any options of any kind without the ordering customer's consent in writing at the time of order under dicslosure laws here. GA may be different though.

Yeah… count me in for never wanting to deal with ford or its dealers again. The fact that you accept this type of treatment says enough about your self worth.
I don't accept it - which is why I ordered out of state - but it is not just Ford. It was common pre-pandemic and it is extremely common now.

I was speaking to my salesman yesterday and he informed me that I should expect the price of my truck to be more than what it was on the sheet that I signed for. Isn't there some kind of price guarantee when you sign and give them your driver's license? I started out not being very happy with the dealership because they added a $1,900 BS markup by requiring me to get a waterproofing of the interior and a ceramic coating on the paint. Now they're telling me that they will set the price once the truck comes in. What can I do about this other than giving in to them and letting them have the truck so they can mark it up 10 grand. It's a Lariat hybrid luxury with both 360 packages, sunroof etc. Almost every option available
I'd pull my head out of my ass and meet with the sales mgr and let him know how bad negative reviews affect business...

I have found no dealer here in AZ that doesn't pad MSRP in some form or another.
Uh, AZ dealers are the worst. We tried to buy a 23 Kia Soul in Tucson last Thanksgiving for our daughter to use at school, and Jim Click wanted $3k in extra service and junk fees. Royal offered a similar deal. Got back to Illinois one week later and purchased at sticker.

I wrote this on another thread. Talk to an attorney to find out legal advice instead of letting the dealer bully you. Ford would not have built that Maverick without your order and DL#.

I am not an attorney but I will say my opinion. Basic business law says offer + acceptance = contract.

A contract does not need to be 10 pages to be binding and hold someone accountable for an offer you accept. Contracts can even be verbal per the law. Someone posted that they won a court case based on text messages.

The dealer will have a hard time telling a judge why they can take your order and then unilaterally decide on a future unknown amount to charge you later while holding your Maverick hostage, is not extortion.

You can't make the dealer sell the truck to you. Dealer owns the truck and sets the price.
These *new" FTC rules are just clarifications. They are the rules. File an FTC complaint.
