I was speaking to my salesman yesterday and he informed me that I should expect the price of my truck to be more than what it was on the sheet that I signed for. Isn't there some kind of price guarantee when you sign and give them your driver's license? I started out not being very happy with the dealership because they added a $1,900 BS markup by requiring me to get a waterproofing of the interior and a ceramic coating on the paint. Now they're telling me that they will set the price once the truck comes in. What can I do about this other than giving in to them and letting them have the truck so they can mark it up 10 grand. It's a Lariat hybrid luxury with both 360 packages, sunroof etc. Almost every option available

Unless you have a signed buyers agreement, there is not much you can do other than complain.

It is important to have a good dealer, even if it is not local.

You should've run to another dealer when they told you they had mandatory add-ons of $1900. That stuff is nearly pure profit to them while giving you nothing of value (99% of the time).

Sounds like you don't have a firm, itemized price at which you agreed to buy the vehicle and the dealer agreed to sell it to you. Usually that's written down on something like a buyer's order.

If all you have is a sheet listing MSRP, then you have no agreed upon price.

When you ordered, you really asked a dealer to order a vehicle from the factory and reserve it for you. It's the dealer's order to the factory, and it's the dealer's vehicle until you buy it from them.

If all you have is a sheet listing MSRP, then all you have is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. The dealer can say, well, we want $5k+ over what Ford suggests, take it or leave it. And since you don't have an agreed price in writing, they're fully within their legal rights.

As @MLowe05 notes, your only recourse is to complain, escalating to the dealer principal or GM, to Ford, and leave negative reviews online. None of that is guaranteed to work as a negotiating tactic, especially if they're confident they have a line of people waiting to pay over MSRP.

I have found no dealer here in AZ that doesn't pad MSRP in some form or another.
After looking at my paperwork, it appears I did not sign an actual buyers agreement so it looks like I'm screwed.
Now I'm glad that I ordered an XLT from a different dealer. That is an actual contract with a price guarantee.

They can't make you pay for anything, but you also have 0 right to the truck. So if you want it, you pay.

You set yourself up for this one. The dealer knew they had an easy mark when you accepted the 1900 markup.

As soon as they told you you had to get water proofing and ceramic that should have told you your at a rip off dealer. At that point I would have zero hope of getting any car from them. Call ford explain the deal and there supposed to sell at least 80 percent to those that placed the order so it could hurt them in the end.

Dealers can add anything they want for dealer stock orders they place but can't add to your truck you have on order, You might have problems if they already have the truck and did the add-ons but if not you are not obligated to pay for it 😉

Ideally, you ask and are told up front if they have "required" add-ons. But you are 100% incorrect if you think they can't force them. They can and they do, and there is nothing you can do about it short of walking away from the purchase.

Yeah… count me in for never wanting to deal with ford or its dealers again. The fact that you accept this type of treatment says enough about your my worth.

There's a difference between accepting it and understanding that it happens so that you're able to take steps to avoid it.

If you think this is specific to Ford dealers, provide evidence of that, because you're kidding yourself.
