I was out of town for 2 weeks and it appears that the battery in my 2025 Maverick Hybrid died while the truck sat in my garage. This is the first time this has happened, and the truck is only a few months old. I'm unable to use the manual key to unlock the front door and get access to the truck (see video below). Am I doing something wrong, or is it possible that the dealer gave me the wrong key for the truck? The fob worked when the battery was alive.

Good day

It is good to hear you got into your truck without too much ado.

Now, about your dead battery issue.

We have a 2025 Lariat Hybrid.

For info towards a perpetually undercharged 12 volt battery, check out Mavster Mechanics thread on "hybrid 12 volt battery mystery solved"...at least the first page(s).

Synopsis...truck does not charge 12 volt battery enough...turn on park lights or headlights whenever driving, day and for sure night! For some reason this tells truck to charge battery more fully.

Consider getting/using multimeter to check 12 volt battery charge several hours after truck shut down...remember to pop hood at shutdown so you don't wake up the trucks electrical system...this ruins you trying to read battery's actual charge state.

Here is a handy 12 volt AGM battery charge sheet for reference.

When I check my battery in the am, my battery now always reads above 12.82 volts, which is very good.

You may wish to read manual on trying to reset your trucks understanding of the batteries desired charge level...first you need a smart battery charger for an AGM battery...I suggest one that puts out 4-5 amps charge to do it right.

Charge your battery fully not a quick surface charge. Takes hours, depending on battery condition.

Make sure all battery loads are off or disconnected, dash cams, lights etc before beginning.

Disconnect charger, shut and lock up truck for 9 hours.

Some have charged battery fully and then disconnected the battery for the night...reconnected in am and this completely reset the truck without having to do a formal BMS reset procedure from manual.

If you don't have a small Li battery boost pack stored in truck...might be a good idea.

Previous procedure is for an undercharged battery...will not fix a sudden overnight parasitic battery drain (rare but happens).
For that you need to engage your dealer for module updating/reflashing/reprogramming...lots on MTC about this topic.

Not a short answer, but best I can manage under the circumstances.

Good luck,

Andy

Laugh it off! Because this thread will be memorable. I picked up a rental truck a few years ago at night and some factory or service tech dufus installed the head light switch upside down...after having the truck towed in and the dealership letting me know the light switch was upside down... otherwise it would have been most embarrassing.

For a standard 12V lead-acid battery (flooded, gel, or AGM), a charger should supply between 13.8V and 14.4V (up to 15V for deep cycling) during the main charging phase. Once fully charged, the charger should drop to a maintenance or "float" voltage of 13.2V to 13.5V to prevent overcharging.

Agree.

And my '22 hybrid does this with headlamps or parking lamps or trailer lamps on. Otherwise it doesn't- allowing slow continuous discharge.

Please note:

To unlock a locked tailgate the key has to be used at an angle- not level with the ground. Weird. Frustrating. But true.
I believe this is what happened to me yesterday. I tried for the first time to unlock tailgate of my new Mav, just couldn't do it. Had to try the other key, and I could unlock it without doing "anything differently". I guess it must be the angle...

I leave my HB parked for as much as 7 weeks all the time and never had a problem. Because of where I live, the A/C is on all the time. Maybe that’s another item that supports @Mavster Mechanic fix. Another month away starting next weekend. Maybe I’ll get a “tender” at some point. The battery being too dead to pop a lock would worry me.

Uhh, nevermind. Apparently you turn clockwise to unlock not counterclockwise.
ah, it's OK :} My father in law rented a brand new perfectly clean car, went to his destination, came back out couldn't locate his key and saw it in the ignition. Door was locked. He called AAA and they came out, guy said you mean those keys in the ignition, sure my FIL said, and the door is locked. So the AAA guy put his hand thru the OPEN WINDOW and gave them to my FIL. And everyone had a great laugh - the windows were so clean since it was a brand new car that he said that you couldn't tell the difference between it being down or up. And ...yes...the AAA guy did charge him.
