Dash fuel mileage readout too optimistic?

How many mpg is your dash showing OVER what you are actually getting when manually calculated

It is very rare for me to have the dash cluster fuel mileage readout actually match the ACTUAL fuel mileage when manually calculated after a fill up. I think being within 1 mpg would be something Ford could have done. But I am always well over that amount on my Maverick ( so far ) and on other vehicles I own.
How does your actual fuel mileage compare to what is posted on the dash in the trip display?
Recently I had just over 500 miles on that tank of fuel. Dash said 41.5 mpg. Actual manually calculated mileage was 38.01 mpg. The other fill up was off by a good bit too.
I think the readout should be more accurate. Even if that means it shows LESS mileage than is actually calculated on some fill ups.

Adjusting the AFE was actually easy! Great tip! I set mine to 920 and will see how that goes.

Since I have had my Mav the average difference between displayed and calculated is -1.05 mpg.
The display showing 1.05 mpg above the calculated value.
6 months 11,500 miles.

How do you set the AFE - with FordScan??? (I do not have FordScan - I need to get my hands on it!)

Mine is 1-2 but that wasn’t an option.

You can adjust the readout's AFE bias to match your calculated values. It's going to vary for each person based on conditions, driving habits, etc. For example, using remote start does not activate the trip computer, so you'll burn some fuel that is not captured by the computer and show a more optimistic number.

This works and I like the reading being more accurate. It's a little tricky learning to use the arrow keys on the steering wheel. I set mine at 940 and it is now within a few tenths of a gallon of matching the actual number. My latest reading is 28.8 mpg. I am happy with that.

I have calculated it four times and each time it was off by exactly 1. I mean it showed 28.9, I calculated 27.9. once it showed 35.1, I got 34.1. same with the other two, off by one. Overall after 1500 miles the total is 27.3 I assume as it shows 28.3. trip one has been going since I first got the car and I use trip two and reset it after each fill up.

You can use the engineering mode to reset it, as explained in a post above.
