Recently purchased a two channel dash cam. The unit has 3M adhesive mounts for both cameras. My question is, is it advisable to trim the electrostatic film to fit the size of the adhesive or is it more advisable to leave it the original size for better adhesion. Thanx!!

Hmmm, good question!

I sat and thought about it for several minutes and think it would be better to leave the film and not trim it.

Reason for this thought is that with the larger electrostatic film at full size (I don't think it is too large of a piece), it gives more surface area to maintain its adherence to the window and not fall off due to vibrations etc over time.

Trimming it would reduce its surface area and therefore could be more susceptible to pulling off due to the camera's weight.

Just a thought, and will see what other thoughts are put forward!

I hope you never have to use the video as evidence.

Wehave 2 of them as well, for piece of mind that we have it just in case.

Have a good one,

Andy

Thanx everyone. Appreciate the advice. I will leave it whole.

Last week I had a car swerve into my lane to go around someone making a right turn. Narrowly avoided a head on collision as there was no one to my right. I do not mind saying it scared the shit out of me it was that close.

Time for a dashcam.

Yep, I have had that happen before I got my front and rear cameras installed, and it sure did scare us as well!

I am happy to say that it hasn't happened since I put them in, and am glad for it.

Cameras are great evidence, but we really, really don't want to actually use them, but will if we have to.
