Well I'll have to disagree with you on that one. I've never had one of those keypads before, and was looking forward to being able to lock the key in the truck when I went to the park for runs. So the first time I went for a run after I got the truck, I tossed the fob in the armrest storage and hopped out with a smile on my face. But as I pressed the required buttons to lock the truck, I was suddenly keenly aware of all the "lurkers" all around me just sitting around in their vehicles...and realized that any one of them could easily have been scanning for opportunities in addition to getting some fresh air. So if they see me locking the truck with the keypad, they will know I am almost certainly locking the key inside. That was all I could think of while I was running, and I never did it again.Key FOB. Why do you even remove it? Leave it in the vehicle and use the provided keypad on the door. Remote start? use the app. And for those that say someone can steal your vehicle, guess what, they can steal it without it so there is no difference.
The bottom line is that car thieves are MUCH more likely to break into a vehicle if they know for sure there is an easy pay off. Unless they are desperate, they probably won't do it just on the off chance they might get lucky. And what easier payoff than breaking a window, grabbing the keys they know are in there and flying? Yes there IS a difference. Take the chance if you like, but I don't intend to make a habit of it.
Oh and to the point of this thread, I do occasionally trip the alarm by accident. It's a little too easy to actuate in my opinion...but I wouldn't exactly call it a problem. Maybe a fob protector would help.
