Saw my first Cybertruck. Thing was I saw it in Manhattan. Thought it was a bit odd to see one there. But there is alot of money there.

Methinks the first owners are raking in money hand over fist. They're being resold for 2x right now because every YouTuber wants a cybertruck video. OEMs and teardown shops will pay anything to get their cost and tech analysis done (Ford was said to have paid $250K for one last week).

Me-Also-Thinks they're the pet rocks of 2024. After we get past all the first release hype, prices and demand will plummet. But I'm humble enough to realize my prediction is most likely absolute BS. I'll just enjoy watching the trajectory of this thing - hit or miss, it's at least an interesting exercise in hubris.

I saw an article reviewing the tent accessory. The promo showed a fancy fold up panel hard camper of sorts. The one they sold for $3000 was basically a fitted-ish SUV tent. Everything with all them is a scam. Its always late, over-priced, and usually not finished when released. As an anology an you imagine if Ford had sold vehicles to non-employees to beta test automatic braking systems back when they first came out? They are somewhere between a kit car and a r/c car to me. But sold for Alibaba knock-off Mercedes prices.

I really liked the concept of the cybertruck. It felt like something new and different. I think they missed the mark in terms of hitting their proposed $40,000 starting point. It seems that the build quality is questionable (as you can see a lot of inconsistency in Tesla vehicles when you get up close). At least they are trying different avenues and pushing technology forward in interesting ways. I can’t wait to see one in person.

I have seen a few around here. Interesting truck. Maybe I can stop by the factory and check one out.

I think you hit the mark about pushing tech. To me the really interesting parts of the Cybertruck are the new centralized controller architecture, the ethernet bus, and the 48 volt electrics. Almost like the Cybertruck was mainly a convenient testbed for that tech.

I live in a small town north of Austin. I have see several cyber trucks on car carriers and a few cruising around town. I'm just not impressed. It is one goofy looking beast.
