I've had my maverick for a 3 years now and while sometimes it was overkill, I enjoyed the rear cross traffic alert because it noticed everything. Cars yards away, people in parking lots across the aisle, etc.
Just today I was backing out of a parking space, had applied the brake to stop for an approaching vehicle I was not alerted to, they waved me on, I let off the brake slightly and start to turn my neck around to look, and there's someone directly behind my vehicle that the system did not get triggered by until I was halfway off the brake. Understandably, the woman in a bright red coat was very upset.
Yes, I should have turned before even slightly letting off the brake, and also yes my hybrid was beeping loudly at her to let her know I'm backing up, I don't want to fight about the situation, just hear if there's some update that maybe did this, if this is an anomaly, or normal and I just never noticed?
I had someone test it when I went home and nothing got set off while my foot was still on the brake in reverse, no indication on the color zones on the screen, but if I took my foot halfway off, immediate orange warning.
I've got an appointment set up at the dealership, but want your thoughts.

So it is sensing actually, and it sounds like the appropriate zones & warnings.

Except now your foot has to be off the brake, which means moving.

It used to work with foot on the brake and not moving right?
Just like the rear camera should come up as soon as Reverse is engaged, movement doesn't matter.

So I'm guessing the brake should not be part of the logic - if in reverse then sensors on and feedback.

Very strange interaction.

You know this thing is full of computers, and interacting with each other.
Hate to say it - but have you tried turning it off and on again?

Just saw a SMA video the other day where he had to disconnect the neg battery cable to reset the computers because of strangeness.
No scan tools saw an error condition or that the MIL should be lit. He could enable/disable the light.
But it was lit and remained.
Until a power reset.

I've seen that in the past too on other systems - 1st car where it disabled interior light after so long if you left the door open accidentally - so controlled by a module. Something got stuck, had to reset.

Yeah hard to write out but you got it, should be alarming when not moving, like it has before.

I haven't done a "hard" reset like that, just tried it after turning it off and on, but I could see where that might help. I'll give it a shot!
