Has anyone made something to cover up the Maverick lettering on the tailgate? (Maybe this makes me some kind of heretic here with all the threads on colorful ways of filling in and enhancing the lettering.)

Something like this decal, but including the lower portion of the tailgate instead of the upper:

How would something like vinyl look covering an indented area?

Look up Air designs tailgate Appliqué for the Ford Maverick.

Tailgate Applique: FO35D16: VNZ6Z-99425A34-A

I guess the appliqué doesn't cover up the lettering. But you could just do paint matched tailgate lettering or no lettering at all!

Hi,
If you were to add Vinyl to the lower tailgate over the lettered section, the vinyl would recess into the lettering when applied.
You would essentially be simply changing the color of the lower tailgate.

We could make one that normally has the letters cut out, but we could make one with no lettering to create that if that is the effect you are talking about.

OP - you would totally make my day if you have a cover pad made that says "Santa Cruz" and post the pic here. The ultra-fanboys' heads would explode on viewing that.

@VinylImagination Thanks for the pictures, that really gives me an idea of what adding something in that space will look like. Since it would lie flat on the metal, I don't think vinyl is the right material for me though. I'm really looking for a full delete. Maybe ABS or a similar stiff plastic like the applique @EONR24 linked is what I should be looking for or try to get made.

I like everyone's creative color combinations with letters and accents for the tailgate, it's just that branding isn't for me.

I've got a bunch of nice red oak. Maybe I need to make a Maverick woodie.

Edit: Gotta link to Ford woodie.

Yea it would take a lot of body work to cover that up.

I've learned to live with it. This is actually my 3rd vehicle with recessed letters like that so it is what it is. I never cared to put the black letters on previous vehicles but I did on this one. Not something I'll ever bother with doing again though. I'd rather save the pennies.

You say you can't do it because the vinyl will recess into the letter. Then you say you can make one?
Please explain.

I don't think I said it couldn't be done, the OP posted a link to a product similar to one that we sell.
Using material like that (Vinyl) would recess into the letters, which means it would essentially color change the whole section including the recessed letters.

Now, depends if you're talking about covering it, or filling it!
If you want to cover that section and change the color, Vinyl will work.
We can make a product that would accomplish that by modifying this design.
https://vinylimagination.com/pages/.../maverick-22-lower-tailgate-accent-decals.php

However, if you want to fill the recessed letters, making that whole section smooth, then vinyl will not work.
Methods to accomplish that would be filling with bondo, welding sheet metal, using 2mm plastic sheeting, or as @mjcmtc said some nice red oak, I would imagine.

OK, why "cover it" when the letters in "Maverick" are already the same color as the rest of the tailgate??
Seems the OP wants the "Maverick" to disappear.
So, yes, vinyl is NOT the answer correct?

For the same reason that some people like the two-tone look. Maybe ask @KimiMc why they did what they did?
In the picture that @EONR24 posted.

People have asked us for this.

However, if you want to DELETE the Maverick recessed letters, and have a smooth surface. Then Vinyl will not work as I said previously. 🙂

Fill in the indentations with Plaster of Paris?

I was thinking 3D printed inserts with a vinyl Overlay, maybe one that said Santa Cruz? The vinyl would sink in slightly at the transition between the 3D plastic and the tailgate metal, but it would be much less noticeable than the current lettering.
