Hello Maverick Fans,

I've been diligently researching the Ford Protect Plans and I'm contemplating whether it's the right choice for me. I'd greatly appreciate hearing about your experiences and any recommendations you might have.

Feel free to chime in with your insights. For context, I'm currently nearing the 30,000-mile mark and it's been 14 months since I took delivery.

Looking forward to your input!

Looks like FloodFord does not sell to Florida Residents. Who would you recommend I buy from?

@mavhopefull You can't buy from an online warranty retailer in FL thanks to stare laws, UNLESS you have access to use of an a non-FL address for warranty registration purposes. CA is affected by similar laws.

I personally don't buy any extended warranties. They're expensive and you usually won't ever use them.

Did you know that:

1. There's up to a 75% dealer profit with extended warranty contracts? When I bought Larait hybrid, I told them straight out of the gate that I don't buy extended warranties, GAP Insurance, tire coverage, or anything else that are dealer add ons. They kept trying to negotiate a lower price down from their original quote. I kept saying no. Finally, the finance guy got mad when I asked him directly what the dealer mark up on them are, and he told me up to 75%. Selling any type of warranty done in the business office is a commission shared by the dealer and finance man/woman.
2. Financing the extended contract/warranty? Now you're paying extra tax and finance charges you don't need.
3. Did you know that the extended warranties run concurrent with your basic warranty? If you buy an extended warranty for 5 years, you are only getting an additional two years of warranty? Dealers are reluctant to tell you that.
4. Are you a member of a credit union? Some credit unions sell extended warranties at less than 1/2 the cost of dealers. You can buy that closer to the end of your warranty and do not have to finance your truck there. So, if you buy a five year extended warranty toward the end of your bumper to bumper extended warranty, you'll get the whole five years you paid for.
5;Never buy an extended warranty from any of the companies that have commercials on TV.
6. Never buy an extended warranty from "Dealer Services" direct mailings.
7. Did you know if you keep up with the maintenance schedule, you'll reduce your chances greatly of needing repairs...for the most part.

How long do you normally keep your vehicles? Annual mileage?
For me, I usually keep them for 3-4 years, then trade them in. There are only two vehicles I've ever kept beyond three years.

Do your research.
Check company ratings.
Check the Better Business Bureau to see any complaints against that company.

For me, Instead of buying the extended service contract, I put money in my savings acct to use as a downpayment when selling or trading in my vehicle.

In 2017 I bought a used 2016 F250 diesel with 28000 miles.
I then went to my local Ford dealer and bought the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty for $1800. I had to use the extended warrantee four times during the next 5 years. It paid for itself 3 times over. Sold it and now have the Maverick. If nothing else, the extended warrantee gives you peace of mind. As for the Maverick, I did not get the extended warrantee, but may later on as the mileage piles up. Depending on the vehicle you are buying, Consumer Reports says you should pass on the extended warrantee.
Not sure the statement that a 5 year extended warrantee on a new vehicle is only good for 2 additional years. I think the term extended warrantee means exactly that 3 or 5 years past the normal new car warrantee.

I have bought the ford ones online (much lower cost) from dealers like flood/Lombardi/granger. The last vehicle I had was 2014 F150 and I got my money's worth, but I kept it for 10 years. I believe a lot of them with give you a pro-rated refund if you sell the vehicle before the warranty ends.

I just got my 2024 Maverick and have not bought one yet, but with a new vehicle you have time.

He has had the truck for 14 months and has 30,000 miles already. His 3 year / 36 month will expire in another 6,000 miles. He is halfway thru his power train warranty. He is doing 75 miles a day on average to get his current mileage. At current pace his 3 / 36 will be expired in less than 3 months. Power train in another 14 months.

Your plan is a solid plan for you. You know that you will probably be done with the truck at the end of the calendar warranty period.

How long he will maintain ownership and the comfort of being outside of warranty, could be high priorities in making a determination.

Exactly. Which is exactly what I was saying. When you pay for an extended service plan, the first three years runs concurrent with the bumper to bumper warranty.

The first three years of an extended service plan runs concurrent for the first three years of the vehicle’s bumper to bumper warranty. None of them start after the bumper to bumper coverage, therefore, buy 5 years, get two additional years. And that additional two years may not cover everything, and you may have a deductible.

Yes you are exactly correct.

However....

You seem to be missing the point that high mileage users extinguish the new car warranty much faster.

The OP's 3 year / 36,000 warranty will be done around 18 months

The 5 year / 60,000 powertrain will expire around 28 months.

If the OP should choose to purchase an extended warranty then he will be in the extended warranty "window" at the 18 month of ownership. As opposed to someone that drives 6,000 miles a year and will extinguish their new car warranty by calendar date and not mileage.

There really isn't a "one size fits all" decision when it comes to an extended warranty.

I would just recommend that if the OP should buy a warranty. Then ONLY purchase the Ford plan.

I would have nothing else but Ford’s extended warranty. There is never any questions asked when you service at a Ford dealer and check their website because you can get 0% financing.

Since we're discussing extended warranties, I was quoted on a warranty from my dealer (doing all my homework before delivery of my Mav hopefully next week), and she recommended a warranty through Old Republic and she quoted it almost half the cost of a Ford Protect PremiumCare plan for the same coverage (OR Supreme). Has anyone had experience with OR (preferably in Canada, as that's where I am), and/or whether I'm getting a useless plan? Thanks in advance!

As many stated, it really depends on your situation. I bought the warranty because I am retired and have no desire to have a huge bill. It may end up being the best money I've ever wasted. There are only 3 things you can do with RISK: accept it (no warranty), transfer it (warranty) or avoid it (walk to where you're going).
