First it's "we'll rollover your order over the phone" then "you had better come in to discuss 'new pricing'." Hello? Price protected! It's the back of the line, but I'll take my order elsewhere. Better to wait longer than be ripped off. Guess we'll see.

It’s frustrating when you have to educate your dealer with Tim’s videos on how to do price protection (or the upcoming rollover). Just don’t do anything until mid august when Ford has gotten the info to dealers on how to correctly re-place an order with whatever special offer they will give for 2022 order holders.

Apocalypse? lol, just a tad bit over dramatic? If you have a good dealer there is little chance of a negative outcome IMO.

As a graduate of Tim B's course on dealing with your dealership, they won't know what hit them.

It is rather annoying that I have to learn all the Ford systems for ordering and order management just to buy a truck from my local dealer.

Apocalypse? I hope not. Back of the line? I hope not. I've been hoping for almost a year now.

modern life is complicated at times! I guess it would be easier if all you had to do was go order your Black Lada and bribe a couple people along the way to ensure you actually got it?

Yes, make sure the dealer has been able to understand what to do for the rollover. Right now, it looks like dealers should be getting more info on this process on Aug 2nd.

Auto companies used to know how to do these things. I have ordered two BMWs from Germany. I was told when the cars were being built, got updates when they were completed, could watch them transit from the factory to the port by rail, could find out what ship they were on and watched both car carriers transit the Panama Canal with webcams. The only variable on delivery time was how long it took to load and unload the vehicles at the ports.

Now I will grant you that was pre-COVID when the supply chain was a well oiled machine. Plus up to a fairly recent point 100% of BMWs came into the US via that process. And I have zero complaints about having to wait what will likely be more than a year to get what is a hot new car at MSRP. I get that Ford along with everyone else is dealing with circumstance no one predicted.

But having to train my sales guy in how to follow Ford processes to get the order placed properly is silly. That is either Ford’s fault for not providing details on their systems or the dealer’s fault for not bothering to read the information streaming out of Ford HQ. Probably a bit of both. There is plenty of blame to go around.

Anecdotally it seems that the dealers who have long been big in the fleet business are handling this situation better because they already know how to take and process orders. And I think Ford HQ rather than invent new systems has probably been trying to re-use existing systems to try to handle the sudden shift from ā€œbuy off the lotā€ to ā€œorder everything because we are behind.ā€

In a broader picture I’m seeing similar breakdowns in systems in many areas. When the pandemic started I told everyone I knew that we were getting 10 years worth of change in 6 months. The weaknesses in a lot of systems were brutally revealed. I could probably sit here and write a hundred pages of examples. I suspect everyone reading this an cite several examples in fields they are familiar with.

We have all been spoiled by how well things worked. We have been living in the shadow of unappreciated greatness built by smarts and hard work. We are going to to have to work hard to get anything close to that world back again and frankly part of that it holding companies or organizations to the same high standards they used to be able to achieve.

Exactly! I'm coming to you as the SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT! I had several features I didn't actually understand when I was ordering my 2022 (not yet in hand) my salesman couldn't adequately inform me about. Plus, I asked a good bit of, "which of these features are best for resale value, which do you think I'd regret not choosing, which are unnecessary for my type of use?" That he couldn't really give me an informed answer on either.

I'm a first time new car
Vehicle buyer, first time Ford customer, first time truck owner. I don't have most of the answers, and I'm one of those people who likes to have my questions thoroughly answered. If I don't feel confident in my understanding/decisions, I get anxious, especially with large amounts of money involved.
