I replaced a cracked windshield on my Mav after catching a rock thrown up by a semi. Exactly one week later I caught a tiny rock at low speed from an oncoming car on a 35mph road and again had a cracked windshield.

I replaced the original with an acoustic from Safelite (not OEM, they couldn't find one). So, I've cracked an OEM non-acoustic and a non-OEM acoustic.

I have not replaced the second cracked one yet but will replace it with another acoustic. There is a noticeable difference in sound with the acoustic glass; much less road noise.

These windshields are made of sugar glass.

I wonder the same thing. Mines getting replaced Wednesday, Safelite guy said he could get the OEM or an aftermarket, I asked the difference between the two and got what I'm sure is a standard issue reply of no difference at all, but I'd love to see some info from folks who have done either (maybe both?) and if they see any difference? Second guessing myself on the OEM, since it's pretty clear that IS junk glass.Half tempted to call Safelite back and tell them to bring me the aftermarket.
Based on what appears to be crappy glass i would for sure go non oem on the replacement if it were me, as long as they can guarantee the cameras can be calibrated.

Beware of wiper scratches. At 7000 miles my Maverick is developing that ā€˜haze’ from wiper swipes. Soft glass. Make sure you never turn on wipers on a dry windshield!
Which is crazy. Crazy that you can say that and people just sort of nod in acknowledgement since it is not that crazy of a statement to make.

"Make sure you never turn on wipers on a dry windshield! Since silicone/rubber can scratch your Maverick glass".

I know it is more like "never turn on wipers on a dry windshield since the wipers can drag debris and scratch it if not lubricated". But still......

In the 6 months I had a 2022 Mav, I managed to get a good 2 inch long scratch that tracked the same radius/path as the drivers wiper blade. Right in the middle of my vision from the drivers seat. Was super happy when that happened......

Well, Safelite's local office reviews made the decision for me, got a chance to read through them today and immediately cancelled Safelite. Going with a local shop instead.

Honestly don't get why there isn't more outrage on here about this. Glass is manufactured to fairly standard requirements, this appears to be a DESIGN flaw that makes the windshields particularly vulnerable. Are we really just supposed to say, oh well to it? Some states, very few, require zero deductible windshield replacement, but most of us have it covered under comprehensive and includes a deductible. How many $200 $300 $500 deductibles are people going to pay every year to get their windshield replaced?

I'm disgusted by this already. $250 OOP is a serious gut punch, and the thought of having to pay that multiple times a year as a design penalty is infuriating.

Ford made Gorilla Glass available for F150 a few years ago. Should make it standard equipment on the Mav before they get caught up with yet another class action.
I agree Totally $500 dollar Deductible, it’s insane to think this is going to be the norm . I am going to look into putting A Clear Coat protection.

I am Pissed 😔 about This and Agree šŸ‘ I really think we should start a Club Petition and let Ford Know how we Feel . I spoke with my dealer and although Don is a Nice Guy he immediately referred me to my insurance policy ā€œ Thanks Don ā€œ . As You Say Oh Well . No it’s $500 bucks Ford and the Windshields are cracking as we speak .

I came from a wrangler, which for those who don’t know, they have VERY little angle to their windshield so replacement of windshields is a common thing.
I thought I was done with this issue lol after I made my first payment, I took a rock to the windshield passing a semi! Luckily I was able to get it filled w epoxy same day so it hasn’t spread but UGHHHH
