@Ford, if you see this, help!!!

TLDR: Mavericks have zero parts availability and it is super-frustrating!

First week of June this year, I entered my truck into the Carlisle Ford Nationals with the MTC, got to meet quite a few nice folks and see lots of Fords. On my way home (about 180 miles), my check engine light comes on.... Truck seems ok, drives ok, sounds ok...and it is late at night so we keep going.

The next day, we head to the auto parts store to read the code, dude says it is EVAP Code P0456, and that it's a hard code that can only be reset by a dealer. ok.

So then, on June 5, I call my local dealer, they set up an appt for 6/12/23. I go to the appointment, they read the same code that I told them was triggering the CEL when I made the appointment. Tech resets code, service manager comes out and says that they need the truck to have 1/2 tank of gas for proper diagnostics. I say ok, they make another appointment for July 3. I go back with 1/2 tank. They say yeah, you have an evap problem, we need to order some parts, not sure how long it will be because the parts are back-ordered.

August 11, I go back to the dealer to get the trailer wire recall fixed (another fiasco that I will not get into here), and service manager says still no evap parts, and no eta.

I call them a few weeks later, still no parts no ETA... this is going on 3 months now. I ask the service manager to get the part numbers for me so I can search for them myself. Parts guy gets on the line and gives me part number NZ6Z9D333A Evaporative Emissions System Line. Turns out it isn't part(s), it is a part, that we are waiting for, a hose.

I get on google, search high and low, send emails, make calls.... and find that this hose is nowhere to be found on Earth. Not even junkyards. Note: the part number is now NZ6Z9D333H, no idea why the change... maybe they fixed the problem with the old one? Who knows.

October 1, I enter the truck into a local show... people love it, 1000's walk by, hundreds check it out closely, I converse with many. I tell them I like it, but that I would hold off until Ford catches up, because heaven forbid if you need to fix anything that inhibits drivability you would be clean out of luck.... you'd be walking until your parts come in, no telling how many months later.

Couple days ago, I call the dealer, still no part and no eta. 4 months now. I do more research, find that this code seems to be popping up here and there. Recall in the offing, maybe.

Which brings me to this today... my CEL is still on. How do I know this is not damaging the engine in some way? According to the service dept at the dealer, I can drive the truck as much as I want, wherever I want....which makes me question, why then is it even a thing? Are they telling me the truth? What about this hose being bad is affecting the engine such that the CEL needs to come on? Are there long term consequences? Am I getting lower MPG?

My wife won't drive it, says she does not trust it. Not sure I do either. It sits in my garage mostly, we drive her car. I have just over 3500 miles on it in 8 months of ownership.

Not only do I worry about the lack-of-trust factor, there is a potential financial damage. The truck's value and salability are lower with an illuminated CEL.... what if I wanted to (or had to) sell?

So, more or less I have a vehicle I do not trust, and my ability to rid myself of it is inhibited. Truth be told, I don't want to sell, yet. But man, with my experience so far...oof. Not sure I'll do this again. I will say this as an fyi to those who may think I'm just whining - I am leaving out details of interactions that have contributed to my feelings, this post is already long enough.

ps: any readers that made it this far, congrats...aannnnnd... if you have one part number NZ6Z9D333H that you can send me, a finders fee awaits :)

frustration

if you don't smell gas fumes it's safe to drive as it's a EPA emissions system fault.

BTW your ceramic job looks great.

Thats a hose with purge pump attached. I have the same problem. Blamed mine on undercoating but after a closer look thats just not possible. Looking at another post it appears the real problem is the fuel tank pressure switch thats mounted inline behind the charcoal can.

Thinking about splicing this older model switch in.

I too have had the same issue with the faulty fuel tank pressure sensor and waiting on the replacement (revised?) NZ6Z-9D333-H. I have searched and ordered this part myself only to have the dealers cancel the order since the part was unobtainable. They do say it will not hurt it to drive with this CEL but I do notice a hesitation that feels like turbo lag that was not present prior to the failure. It is getting frustrating waiting and I am about to hit 30K miles. I would like to get this fixed and proven out before my warranty expires.

UPDATE!! As of 10/20/2023 my Maverick is back without the CEL for the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor NZ6Z-9D333-H.

Wow reading your post sounds like I wrote it! I am having the exact same frustrations and issues. My dealer has been nothing short of incompetent as well. I also want to get rid of my Maverick to get my wife a new car, but like you said you’re stuck. Was all ready to pull the trigger on a new car but dealer failed to fix and I had to back out. So frustrating and I’m beyond done with this truck and Ford.

My dealer has a Maverick on the lot and I wonder how much it would take to rip out of that one and use on my truck…hmmm.

I got some good news from Ford today. I did not update this post, but I ended up opening a case with Ford customer care. First contact via email a couple days ago. First call, yesterday. Today… my part will be delivered Monday. Funny how that works. That’s sarcastic, I do appreciate them jumping on it. Just wish they would look at the common problems we are reporting here, and jump on them proactively.

With the strike, I really figured I was stuck with the problem for the foreseeable future.

I’ll update when it’s fixed.

That is great news glad they were able to escalate it, I hope the same thing happens for me.

Ouch. I have a case open with Ford now too. I was expecting to wait a while. Such a frustrating experience, but thankfully the truck is drivable. I’m ready to dump this as soon as it’s fixed as I just don’t want to keep running into issues.

Any update on this for you? Nothing for me. And Ford customer service has been essentially useless, never returns my calls or emails.

Checked with my dealer last week. They said Ford shipped 150 of them to the warehouse. ETA to dealer 11/20
