Looks a lot like my CG Lariat FX4 did when I got it home after Cilajet applied. Now it needs a bath.

Almost! I'm going to get the undercarriage coated with Fluid Film.

THEN we are ready for mud!!!
My last new vehicle I had New Hampshire Oil Undercoating applied. Used the oil wax product. You only have to go back every 2 years to keep the lifetime warranty in effect. It is not messy at all. You can touch it because it is firm. It will dent if you push your finger nail on it hard. It is self healing afterwards. When I get my Maverick I am going to get it done there.

Look great! I've been putting off coating mine for a few months now. I need to do it before it gets hot outside

What kind of money are we talking about to get it ceramic coated? Just a ball park figure would be helpful to know if it fits in my budget.

$1,000 more or less depending on installer and product used

Got my truck detailed and a 5-year ceramic coating installed yesterday. Very pleased with the results! Big shout out to my friend Andrew from AAG Auto Detailing who did a terrific job. He's a great resource, and you can find him on FB if you have any questions about detailing, cermaics, truck care, etc.

For those who want to know, the coating I had applied is IGL Coatings' Kenzo.

Is this something you can do yourself, or is it best left to the professionals?

Yes and yes.

Heck, you can buy ceramic coating products on Amazon. The application is not difficult. However, the BIGGEST thing is that your paint needs to be PERFECT before applying, or else all you are doing is locking in every scratch, swirl mark, etc., under a semi-permanent coating.

If you watch my video, you'll see that it was an all-day process for my detailer to install my coating. The actual ceramic coating application was maybe 90 minutes of an 8-hour day. However, before he applied the coating, he decontaminated the exterior, washed it and prepped the paint by spending a couple hours polishing every little scratch and mark out of the clear coat. It was amazing how many small imperfections were there even on a truck less than a month old! Just imagine the amount of polishing time he invests on older vehicles! In some cases, he starts with a heavier polish that cuts more, then goes to a medium polish and then a finish polish. In my case, he only needed a one-step polish with the finish polish.

Trust me when I say when I look at my truck in the light from every angle, it is AMAZING how even and perfect the finish it. There are literally no blemishes.

So, could I have done it myself? Perhaps. Would I have wanted to? No. Would I have done as good a job? No way.

If you're able to polish/ compound the truck without creating issues, then you'll be fine

Agreed. But I'd also say that the odds of a first-timer doing so are slim and none. Which, if you have a brand new Maverick like I do, begs the question: you really going to "experiment" with your own shiny, new toy?

The answer is up for each one to decide...
