There has been quite a bit of discussion on vehicle theft on this thread. Probably because we really like our Maverick. The attached article talks about car theft in Canada but applies to the U.S. as well. Found it very interesting. Theft is getting quite sophisticated. It seems like leaving the key fob in the vehicle and using the exterior key pad like I always do is not on the reviewer's list.

The most common way cars are stolen in Canada — a feature all new vehicles have puts you at risk (yahoo.com)

Edit: Not really done any research on this lock. Found this on amazon, FYI

I saw that article too and wondered how vulnerable Mavericks might be

Grab some faraday bags to store your keys in, they're cheap and should stop repeater attacks. Steering wheel clubs are also making a comeback, can't use a laptop to defeat that (well, maybe depends on how motivated your are.)

Definitely worried about Maverick theft since the demand is so high. Hoping they don't hit 90's Acura Integra levels of car theft popularity.

$189 for a lock that can be bypassed by a socket set?

I had a neighbor in my subdivision get his Charger stolen. The police said his and multiple other Chargers had all visited the same dealership in town the day before for maintenance. So, it was very likely an inside job. The perps likely just grabbed the addresses and some reprogrammed keys. All they had to do was walk up to the car and drive away. By the time anyone noticed the cars missing, they were already an hour away and stripped.

These jokers know what they are doing and likely laughed their way through that entire article.

Kill switch. Won't stop a break in but will stop them from driving it off.
