I'm cancelling my order. Bought another truck.

Why? Why now? Reviews are out! Because "time kills deals".

My order would be cancelled already but my dealer is dragging their feet. Ford salesguy sent a nice "don't give up" email. Offered to swap in for the 1st EB they get on the lot ... when they get it. Ordered early July. It's October now. Ford's lack of communication and waiting killed the deal.

A Chevy dealer had a lightly used diesel Colorado sitting on their lot 1hr away. Drove by a few weeks ago during a road trip and did a pit stop. Needed to think about it vs my Maverick order. Friendly Chevy salesguy txted me a few days later. Offered something unbelievable: he had the truck driven over to us to keep overnight. <-- You read that right! their shuttle kids drove the truck for 1hr to our place and left it till the next day! Talk about customer service. My partner and I drove it for hours and the diesel got >30MPG on country roads we drive. 7,600lbs tow rating in a small package.

Ford? disappointed me. I drove by the dealer's lot yesterday while running errands and BAM -- saw a black XL parked in their lot! Where was the promised call from my Ford salesman? He'd said he'd call when their 1st Maverick rolled in so I could take a look in-person. No call, no txt, no email since the "don't give up". (n)

BTW: Used trucks weren't all overpriced. Used truck list prices were dropping by $1k / wk towards the end of Q3. I'd predicted a price floor happening. The Experts said all prices were going up but tracking prices of used trucks in Q3 showed otherwise. Now in Q4 prices are going back up again but there was a blip in Q3. The 2 dozen lightly used trucks I was watching are sold so the Experts are right about tight inventory.

I got the '17 Z71 4x4 Colorado diesel w/ 35k miles for same price if I were to get EB+AWD+4k+Lux Lariat Maverick. No haggle dealer; it was list price or I walk. Price was right.

Walking around the Maverick it's clear that it's smaller than the Colorado but not by much. Maybe down the road I'll still get the Maverick, so I'll keep reading everyone's posts here!

They're not your friend, they DON'T have your best interests in mind, they make money and get paid to screw you over. Think VA DISABILITY SYSTEM they get paid to screw us over, so do Ford dealers. By the way I only buy Fords but the the Chevy Dude on YouTube is amazing at videos on how to not get screwed by a car sales thief, I mean salesman. By the way I always play 2 or 3 dealers against each other to get the best deal.

How does time kill a deal when we all knew none of these would even roll off a line til September?

you didn’t order, you, like all of us, pre ordered. Ford talked “fall delivery” and we are legitimately 14 days into fall, and low and behold, people are getting their trucks.

you seem like the “I want it now daddy” kid from Willy wonka.

hope you’re happy with the colorado, my colorado was lemon law bought back in 2020, what a nightmare electronically.
It is the lack of "Truthful" communication that has me starting to look elsewhere.

You must be new here. I've been an advocate of the Mav since it was announced, especially about the hybrid when FUD started happening around it.

I gave specific examples of how my dealer's communication & Ford's communication is severely lacking. I'm not the only one who has said the core problem is communication and (some) dealers.

Go about your day attacking others anonymously online but that scores you no points with me.
I’m not new here, I ordered mine in early June, just like most. I got my confirmation in July, and a scheduled build for later this month. Not hybrid.

but whatever you gotta tell yourself.

Because we have an impatient consumerist culture, wanting everything RIGHT NOW. Which is the major flaw in the automakers' new plans to do more build to order sales.
good things are worth the wait I suppose. I’m usually very impatient, in fact I’ve been without a car of my own since June, but the wife and I have been sharing the car decently enough.

maverick wasn’t even on my radar when I sold my ranger, I was lookin at a compact somethin or other, ran across the maverick and decided to wait for it. It’s been a good exercise in restraint.

from who? Your dealer? Or Ford themselves.

not all dealers are as clued into things as some of us on the forum. Some dealers are very much on the ball. Mine has been “ok”.

good luck.

Dear Ford Purchaser,

Due to unforeseen problems with our communication system, your purchase of a new Ford Maverick has not been acknowledged. Please rest assured that your order has been entered into our system and will be fulfilled as soon as possible. Expect further information on your vehicle in the near future. Our apologies, and thank you for your patience.

This is the letter I would like to see from Ford. Yes, we are a screwed up consumerist society, but there is no excuse for Ford's pitiful communication failures. Yes, there are delays. Yes there are are good reasons for that at present. Yes, if you try to purchase one of these vehicles right now, there is going to be uncertainty. But there is no shortage in the opportunity for communication. I supposedly just spent $35,000. Can I be faulted for expecting acknowledgement of that? Ford has lied to me. My dealer has lied to me (and taken my $500). I sit here on my hands waiting for a simple confirmation of my purchase, which would at least allow me to plan for the eventual completion of the transaction. How hard can that be? How hard can it be to send out a simple form letter like this to everyone who is involved? No wonder people are dropping out. Those thoughts are flashing through MY mind at present. I'm embarrassed to be spending time on this forum whining about this. It gives me some kind of weird release I suppose, but I am better than this.

I thought my dealer was one of "those" until he called me as promised that 9 Mavericks will there the next day.... And I could drive one
I have new level of respect for him
I'm sure that will change when they try to rip me off on my trade
Lol

wow, had to wait a few months.... I ordered my Bronco over a year ago and still wont be here for another year. As I work at a dealer, the AVERAGE current wait time for a vehicle order is now 3-6 months, longer in some cases.... and I will have waited 6 months for my Maverick when it arrives in dec... (hopefully)

This ^

I'm a long time Ford customer. From 80s stick shift Taurus to Escape Hybrid. But those cars were all the old dealer lot sales. Now Ford wants to shift (mostly) to build-to-order, and that's good, and we consumers change with that, but it's not really working.

Tim @ LM updated today. He's great, but ya gotta wonder: become the de facto spokesperson because neither Ford steps up nor other dealers update about this new build-to-order process. His live chat is FULL of questions that still don't get answered.

My order is a double whammy: hybrid + Lux. 40% & 20% constraint. How do I know? Only because Tim does AMA/Tech shows. He doesn't get (directly) paid to speak -- think his job is Internet Sales Mgr at LM -- and he only gets a limited supply of info from Ford. This forum gets snippets of info from dealers who care or folks closer to Ford who spill some nuggets if info.

I'll be joining Ford's Q&A tomorrow evening. How do I know about that? Not because Ford or my dealer sent me an invite! Nope. Again, Tim shared the Q&A link. That guys deserves his Bronco for FREE for all the extra PR work he's doing for FoMoCo.

You could have kept your order then resell the Maverick back to the dealership with a $5000 "market adjustment" markup.

Yea, that did cross my mind after Tim @ LM mentioned their markup was $2.5k.

Because my dealer has still not returned my voicemail & email to cancel, that's still an option.

I'm in a rather unique position for once in my life! I sold my 2016 Colorado last month for $3000 more than I paid for it in 2016. Both my wife and I have work vehicles and are planning on going down to just 1 vehicle once I retire in 2023. So, the money from the sale of the truck when into an investment account where it's growing. I haven't ordered a Maverick because I'm one of those old school types that like to look, listen and drive before I buy! I am fortunate to have time on my side and hope things turn around in the car industry before we both have to turn in our work vehicles and buy another.

As for the Colorado, it was a great truck and I hated to see it go, but with the used market being what it is right now, it just made more sense to sell it now and wait to buy something else when the market has stabilized more. That Colorado was a great riding truck and I had not problems with it at all in the 5 years I owned it! Congrats on finding a deal on a diesel Colorado, that was really the one I wanted, but they didn't come out until after I had purchased mine!
