To each his own! I think the wait is fine. I have a working vehicle so that of course helps.

I don't know that I understand it either. Apparently constraints and supplies are constantly changing, so expecting Ford to constantly update is not reasonable IMO. I don't even want an email from Ford every single time something changes. And I also don't expect the dealer to have every answer in terms of Ford production.

As someone noted, the vehicle was promised "Fall 2021" and that meant sometime after September 21. They've kept the promise that they made. And the idea of ordering a new vehicle is that you don't have to have it right now.

As someone else noted I would keep the order and sell it once delivered. You'll likely make a profit.

I'm in a rather unique position for once in my life! I sold my 2016 Colorado last month for $3000 more than I paid for it in 2016. Both my wife and I have work vehicles and are planning on going down to just 1 vehicle once I retire in 2023. So, the money from the sale of the truck when into an investment account where it's growing.
Smart move. Everyone's life situation is different. My partner started a small biz that's picking up more clients so buying a truck -- despite this crazy market -- was the factor.

You're not the 1st to say they're basically getting paid to sell their vehicle.

Here's the #'s that I ran: GM suggested an MSRP for the '16 Colo CC Z71 4x4 at $35,895. Diesel option added $3,730. In today's money -- so inflation -- that truck could list for $45,007. Back in 2016, folks like you probably got a much better deal by haggling. If I go build one on Chevy's website now, the MSRP dropped a little to 43,570. But there's really no haggling to be done in this kind of crazy market.

I like that the Ford dealership gave me MSRP for the Maverick, and it's obviously less expensive than a new Ranger or Colorado. But running the #s, I could get a lightly used truck that I already test drove and had a few more things that I wanted for the same price as a new Maverick.

It sounds like you may still get a Maverick when you downsize, and maybe I will too if the car starts having issues, who knows 🤷‍♂️

I haven't ordered a Maverick because I'm one of those old school types that like to look, listen and drive before I buy! I am fortunate to have time on my side and hope things turn around in the car industry before we both have to turn in our work vehicles and buy another.

As for the Colorado, it was a great truck and I hated to see it go, but with the used market being what it is right now, it just made more sense to sell it now and wait to buy something else when the market has stabilized more. That Colorado was a great riding truck and I had not problems with it at all in the 5 years I owned it! Congrats on finding a deal on a diesel Colorado, that was really the one I wanted, but they didn't come out until after I had purchased mine!
If you have the time, I'd recommend going with one of the dealers that is offering a discount when the time comes (unless you buy local only). I've had a great experience with Granger myself. I just sold my Ranger to carmax last night (picking up my maverick this weekend). I don't know when you sold your Colorado, but I'd been keeping track of offers from various sources over the summer. Up until 2 weeks ago my offers had dipped from their peak by $2K. Well, that reversed in the last 10 days where Carmax paid $2k above the best offers I had early summer in June/July. I think the used car market is going to be taking another up-tick imminently, because I can't otherwise explain why they paid me what they did.

Been there and did that with the Chevy Colorado. Worst vehicle I ever owned and I would never buy another one. I think some folks have lost perspective. Ford is not selling you this vehicle your dealer is. Your dealer is 100% responsible for communicating with you. My sales person at my local dealer has checked in with me almost weekly.

Good Luck on your new ride, hope it works out better than mine did for me.

As crazy as things are right now I don‘t expect to see constant updates, but I would feel much better if I got even a single confirmation from Ford that I WILL get my build at some point. The dealer submission and the factory response are two very different elements. I know the dealer will perform the sales transaction when the vehicle appears. But at this juncture I have received NO confirmation of a build From Ford. Without a build there is no sale. The primary means of confirming your build is receipt of a VIN
