I have some ideas, but not certain about it. What is the purpose of this camera?

I believe it's the forward camera for the AEB system. Active Emergency Braking.

Isn't the camera for the AEB system facing forward, behind the windshield? The camera in the OP is facing backwards, presumably for the cabin.

I could see that. Either way I just looked at mine and it doesn't look like a lens for a camera. It looks like a cover with holes to protect, possibly as mentioned, something like an environmental sensor.

Just thought it was funny. Pretty sure it's the temperature sensor. Remove the housing and find out.

Mine also detects pressure on steering wheel when i switch it to adaptive cruise with lane assist so i don't take my hands off the steering wheel. It auto steers the car in lane.

1. Release the clips and remove the trim panel.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Release the clips and remove the in-vehicle temperature and humidity sensor.

In my view, it is a camera, that has ample space around it for the environment sensor(s), such as temperature and humidity.

I did see that in the manual, but dismissed that without reading every sections. My2023 Lariat does not have adaptive cruise control, albeit it does have lane assist.

In summary, the camera used for adaptive cruise control, lane assist (over 40 ml/h) and possibly for motion sensor inside in the cabin.

Two different parts. The camera (IR Sensor) for that stuff is the bigger box in the middle facing the front of the vehicle. The sensor you are sharing has nothing to do with a camera or motion sensors. It's strictly temperature related. All the "driver assist" stuff is done from the front facing camera and judged by sensors on the steering wheel as well. That's why if you drift with that setting on, you get the notification. Nothing in the cab is watching you.
